You’d think it would be open 24 hours

This is a great reminder that the only person who has your back at the end of the day is you. DO NOT rely on any government or person in an emergency, because they’ll only protect their own interests.

What kind of people just close down in a major crisis because their shift is over?!?! Call your manager... tell them staff are needed ... and serve the evacuees until your replacements show up! Medical staff and first responders do it all the time, and their shifts are a LOT harder than taking down names and handing out blankets and water bottles. I'm utterly shocked!

This is a very common problem. Not just in Jesper but all over Canada. It's that attitude and work culture. The govt workforce works for itself and not for the people

The worst mayor in Calgary Alberta history (
  • Emergencies only happen during the eight hours the centre is open. Gosh, how many hours of overtime I have put in for non-emergency situations. Shame on management. Maybe they should be sent to Jasper to help with cleanup.

Shift change = closing down?? Most businesses don’t work like that.
  • @Veikra
still think the gov will help you in an emergency?
  • Wth is wrong with this city 🤨 You know you can do a shift change with it still open 🙄
  • From a born and bred Calgarian - I apologize on behalf of our pathetic Mayor, as well as any staffers who wouldn’t pull longer shifts for these people. Shameful and EMBARASSING. Best of luck to all affected by this unfortunate event. ✌️❤️🇨🇦

Come on Calgary you can do better than that!

I wonder how much planning actually went into the situation, if your a center to help evacuated people and you know that people are still fleeing why would you not plan to keep it open with shift changes? Where is the security or even a couple officers to help? People have years to create a plan, seal it in an envelope and when an emergency happens rip it open and follow it, yet every time an emergency happens it feels like the bare minimum happens
  • What fantastic organizational skills. Didn't the evacuees know they had to break land speed records to accommodate the bureaucracy? Government just continues to amaze.

I'm from PG and the city is posting stuff saying they're helping jasper evacuees but then the one lady say they were turned away?? Wonder if City of PG is really helping or not 😢
  • What kind of a person would close the help centre during a crisis in Alberta...????? you can see the need for normal thinking people in the decision making process... its time for change in government.
