I don't know about anyone else, and everyone has a right to their opinion, but for those who have seen the episode- I personally feel that they hypnotist was very abusive of his power. It's an amazing talent, but he shouldn't of gone that far for his own benefit, and even if, in a better version of the situation, he had still chosen to do it, he would've justified it much more. It also upsets me to see so many television interviews and to see the hosts of the show just dismissing it like it's nothing. Anxiety and germaphobia are real problems, and they deserve all the respect in the world.

i don't think what mel b said was appropriate, what howie has is not voluntary, it's a medical condition, he can't just "get rid of it". The hypnotist was even worse though, he abused his power on howie and it sent him to therapy

Howie plays his germ phobia a little too far... to the point that people would actually believe the only possible way he'd touch someone's hand was if he was hypnotized.  It's not as bad a phobia as say, arachnophobia.  He just thinks it's gross.  He's not going to scream or go into shock if someone touched him, like an arachnaphobe would do if you put a spider on them.  All he probably needed to do that performance was a bottle of hand sanitizer under his desk, and a little pleading from the performer.
