I had fun at ‪@NomadicGaijin‬ live stream at Tokyo Akabane and decided to film my own rainy ASMR walk in between.
I started from Akabane station, walked through restaurant street on the eastern side of the train line then went on through the western side, looked around residential area, visited Akabane Hachiman shrine and returned to the eastern side. In the end I walked to Arakawa River. Finished at the river without any dry place around to replace depleted camera battery.
Does it have Blade Runner vibes?
One poor kitty was found 😿.

This is absolutely 100% what comes to mind every time I think about my personal concept of "homesick for a place you've never been." This peaceful atmosphere is genuinely cathartic and the closeness of everything gives me a diorama-like sense of coziness.

Japan looks so surreal on a rainy night it’s like a Video game and I love it!

That’s what I love the most about Japan. I loved walking in the rain on a warm summer night. Those cluttered streets full of sounds and smells. And then finding a cozy tiny restaurant and enjoying the food and the company of my partner while the rain is coming down. That’s just pure happiness for me.

7:11 - "It's funny how everyone here has the same umbrella, too." Made me laugh. This footage is so valuable and beautiful.
  • 7:12 "It's funny how everyone has the same umbrella" I was thinking the same thing but was not expecting anyone to say it lol
  • the thing that surprises me the most is that you can just go take a walk in the middle of the night and feel completely safe, here in my country Argentina you couldn't make a single block without getting robbed or worse. What a difference to live in a first world country.

This video made me feel so cozy, the streets are so relaxing, even the crowded ones, I don’t know how to explain it.

Thank you for saving me a 20 hour flight.
  • The clearing away of the water from the lens is surprisingly endearing.

Man I loved walking at night in the rain back when I was studying abroad in Japan. It was just so fun. This takes me back to those days.

I absolutely love the narrow city backstreets, intricately littered with intimate shops, restaurants, and bars. It creates such a wonderful atmosphere. ... and then there's the neat, closely knit suburban housing, which has a peaceful atmosphere all of its own. ... and it's all so CLEAN... No litter or graffiti anywhere! You are very lucky to have such lovely cities in Japan, full of character. I hope to visit one day.
  • I like the part in 23:35 and 39:10 when you are walking alone in the rain. It feels so serene and tranquil. Would love to see more rainy park-walking videos.

What is it that makes Japan so astonishingly beautiful with rain and snow? All the great artists captured this.
  • 38:08. Did you know the train would go past the moment you approached the viewpoint? The timing was perfect.

This is such a large contrast to American cities. Such a lack of just trash cans and litter is incredible. The pedestrian friendliness is also amazing.

Falling rain, night time, wet streets, neon lights - together it created a magical feeling!

Something really captivating about the Japanese backstreets, so full of little hole-in-the-wall restaurants and bars. feels like you could just walk around with your mates until you find some little eatery or watering hole to call "your special place".
