Dude in the back: "why are we just standing he... AH OOOOH AH OOOOOOH"
  • Leonidas knew Dilios had the ability to make speeches and talk. That’s why he sent Delios back to rally the army and give his final order to the council of Sparta. Leonidas was smart to do that.

Out of 10000 Spartans, like 20 heard what he was saying
  • Just imagine this actor, 98, on his death bed watching this final scene right before he dies. Beautiful

The fact that (most) of this actually happened is mind-blowing. Of course this is romanticised and embellished, but the core idea is still there, this is actual history.

Xerses: Congratulations men! We have defeated the 300 Spartans! Persian Army: Yeeeeaaaaa! Xerxes: Now, let us fight the 10,000 Spartans! Persian Army:..........................

"THE ENEMY OUTNUMBERS US A PALTRY 3 TO ONE, GOOD ODDS FOR ANY GREEK" The most awesome line in movie history!
  • @MarvelDcImage
The Spartans actually did not have a war cry - they went into battle silent which freaked out their opponents who usually had to psyche themselves up with war cries. Also, they were not into long speeches - hence we have the term laconic.

The Battle of Platea was one of the Bloodiest for the Persians and it caused Xerxes to Pull back from Greece. Meaning Xerxes hordes wee obliterated that day and proved that the Greeks, especially the Spartans were the fiercest warriors to ever walk the Earth. Thank you Greece.

"The enemy outnumber us a paltry 3 to 1... good odds for any Greek..." I love that line!

"We usher in a future brighter than anything we can imagine." I get moved to tears every time.
  • @hyperion2hger
The Greek don't fight like heroes. Heroes fight like Greeks.
  • Tale of “ the blind spartan “ out of the 299 Spartans that died one was told to go home to tell of their tale. He was disowned, and branded a cowered. He was there when all of Xerxes the first horde arrived. He died on that battlefield, but men who near him told he was a whirlwind of death. After the battle he was no longer branded a coward, and laid to lrest with his brothers with Leonides.

How can someone capture this emotion. Its just amazing. The Speech, The Setting, The Spartans.Like everyone with a heart, Everytime I see this, I can't help but to stand up and imagine myself at Plataea, Charging With Army, Fighting side by side, man to man, brother to brother, with the Spartans, and avenging Leonidas and his 300. Give thanks to brave Leonidas and his 300. And if you die, remember what Leonidas said before his Epic death; ' It was an honour to die by your side'
