Red Carnation developing black veins

I cut a single flower from a red carnations and put it in a quantity of black ink. I was told that it only works with white flowers and I wanted to see what would happen to a red flower.

Slowly it developed black veins, similar to what you might see in a zombie movie.

Microscope: Brunel Stereo Microscope (BMDZ with the LED Stand)
