I was left alone in Jr high and listening to Mary and Lauryn Hill and Faith Evans helped keep me safe.

To hear that list of awards, knowing she's been been the queen since I was in high school, it's awesome to see she is a real person with depth and sincerity. And Colbert is genuinely enthusiastic that she's on, but he has a conversation instead of empty praise and fake excitement. These are real people, that care, that work hard and enjoy it. They remind me of plumbers, doctors, teachers, construction workers, garbage collectors. You can't get it done until you really do the work and no reason you can't enjoy the effort and result. Look for friends, workers and politicians like this and see your world improve.

Within the past few years I have seen Mary loosen up more during interviews…she’s funny…she’s smart….she’s a lot more confident…and relaxed…

More of us need to adopt that mindset (I’m talking to myself because I let people telling me that I couldn’t stop me from doing…school counselors, teachers, family, so-called friends. I need to revisit my dreams.)

  • I've loved this woman for a loooong time❤❤❤ she is awesome!

Have only heard of her before tonight. Don't know her music. But I really respect her as a women's activist and a children's advocate. She is clearly intelligent and serious about her craft and cause. Never knew that. Respect. 🙏🏽
  • At least she’s honest about her acting 😂. But fr, She’s the example of doing it even if others say you shouldn’t/can’t.
  • You know, the thing she said that hits me, is that her mom let her sing. My old man used to get mad at me for singing.
