SES Herald of Wrath HD2 Destroyer

"The SES Herald of Wrath is the ship my Diver commands in HD2. Featuring a large railgun turret fully controllable at the designated console, several high caliber turrets across the hull, and even a 5 cluster railgun salvo at the nose of the ship allows the HoW to deal out a not insignificant amount of damage to ground, airborne, and spaceborne threats."

Drop pods from helldivers are actually very doable... A little well placed gravity generators... A nice rotor with small head so you can plug a small cryo chamber... A nice will placed parachute if you like. If you are not a parachute guy, use gyro plus hydros for fall control

Missed opportunity to use 'Cup of Liber-Tea' in introduction.

"...a very standard-looking SciFi ship..." That's the thing about any kind of genre worldbuilding, it's mostly about stacking tropes on one another. The difference between good and bad genre media is how well those tropes are stacked. The worldbuilding of Helldivers owes so very much to Starship Troopers, as do a lot of other games. It is a very nice stack of tropes, though.

This is just the DESTROYER, mind you. There's rumoured plans that they're going to design Frigates, Cruisers, maybe even heavy Battleships or Carriers as well. If this trend keeps up, maybe we'll be able to play larger teams, or TWO teams, on the same planets, maybe even get space battles. Personally - I love the CONCEPTUAL ideas here, but maybe only some of it is added to Helldivers 2, and a more complex take on what I just wrote is used to make a Helldivers RTS game. Base building, fleets above planets, able to invade planets, build up more bases... a little bit Empire At War and Command and Conquer based, so we can rotate buildings and such to design the ideal base and maybe planet-based shipyards to build the lighter ships, and orbital shipyards for Cruisers and above. Either way, I have high hopes for the Helldivers franchise. I have none left for Star Wars right now, so Helldivers is starting to become my go-to dopamine hit. As for the ships you can see in Helldivers, you're correct, people are correct. Each ship represents a player. Ships can be solo, or grouped up to 4, you can tell as the ships are clustered together facing the same way, which means several regions on planets can have up to 100 ships up in the sky, most of which you can see from the command bridge. It's a way for the game to show just how many players are actually playing the game, and in that region of any given planet. It adds loads to immersion, I love it.

i don't think it's literally 1:1 the numbers of ships you see over an area, but it's true that if you're over a planet, the quantity and density of ships increases the more players are over or on the same planet

It really seems like Helldivers 2 can be achieved in Space Engineers.

This ship blows my attempt out of the water, but its given me some ideas of how I can improve mine.

That bit about the ships belonging to other players, that's actually true. If you're in a fireteam, each team member's ship is near yours as a small flotilla. Sometimes they are spaced further apart, or in another section of the sky, but the vast majority of the ships you see do belong to other players and fireteams.

Space engineers needs more npc mods. Helldivers as a concept would be awesome to play in this game.

Just a slight correction, the Pelican is the VTOL craft that pics you up at the end of missions. The Strike Eagle is essentially a Sci-Fi A-10 Warthog.

I really like the design, because it is exactly what I imagine a standardised, mass produced space ship would look like. You're not flying a one-of-a-kind cutting edge design, you're flying the workhorse of Super Earth, a jack of all trades destroyer, fielded by the dozens and considered fully disposable. Super Earth must be stomping these out by the hundreds.
  • @penguinhacker
Do a big event using orbtial strikes and players shooting the bugs on Pertan!
  • If you look closely at the hanger floor underneath the eagle you can tell it opens up and the eagle enters/exits from there, also super destroyers have 15inch(380mm) battleship guns underneath the bridge, but this was a very good build nonetheless
  • @George_M_
I love that the guns arent disproportionately large or numerous, and the design is 100% focused on launching troops and bombardment. No landing, no space to space weapons or defenses.
  • I have to (super earth) salute the effort made to be faithful to the source material while also fitting it to space engineers gameplay. I can totally picture using this for a playtrough with friends. The blast door compartimenting of the ship is very nice. Pressurisation not being a thing in the game since its just a hub, having this hidden in the layout is really well done.

“It’s so beautiful yet so simple” best words to describe it as! I love it!
  • @Alex-mn5rs
I knew someone would make one pretty quick. My personal destroyer is called the SES Spear of Destiny, still the best name I've seen for a ship (though I've seen one or two funny ones like the "Fist of Family Values")
  • Use the cryopod model for the drop pod with an event controller to arrest your falling speed to <10m/s at the last second and an auto lock landing gear mag foot to keep it from tipping over on impact.
  • @HP-ws2vx
This is fucking INCREDIBLE. it really is quite accurate to the in game ship. A lot of Helldivers 2 reminds me of space engineers aesthetically, I knew you'd make a video on the subject and I was not disappointed!
