Having been in office since 2014, Modi’s rule has catapulted India to greater prominence on the global stage. Many equate his policy agendas to robust economic growth, tackling corruption, and putting “India first.” On the other hand, Modi’s administration has been criticised for mishandling a growing discontent within the agricultural sector, instigating conflict between religious groups, and failing to revitalise the health and education sectors. Against the backdrop of ever-strong popularity among voters, it is imperative to discuss whether the BJP’s direction under Modi has been more polarising than unifying. The question then becomes: what (or who) is the right path for India as it surges ahead into the future?

ABOUT THE OXFORD UNION SOCIETY: The Oxford Union is the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. Since 1823, the Union has been promoting debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe.

The Oxford Union is deeply grateful and encouraged by the messages of support in response to our determination to uphold free speech. During our 200 year history, many have tried to shut us down. As the effects of self-imposed censorship on university campuses, social media and the arts show no signs of dissipating, the importance of upholding free speech remains as critical today as it did when we were founded in 1823. Your support is critical in enabling The Oxford Union to continue its mission without interruption and without interference. You can support the Oxford Union here: oxford-union.org/supportus

In a summary, we as Indians will criticise the way things are internally cuz we need India to be better... Doesn't mean we will trash India in an international forum and let the British get away smirking commenting on the condition of India after we won our freedom from them.
  • @riospeaks859

It's time, we in India start hosting debates on how UK and US have been performing, their economy, their politics, their history, etc..

Hats off to Akash Bannerjee– "Politicians Harvesting Communalism" is a kind of politics India is facing.
  • the world is going crazy after data analysis and here’s one saying “I wont talk about statistics”..
  • There are a lots of good things happened in between 2014 to 2024 like "Article 370 abolished" to "Ram Mandir Build & Inauguration" to "Vaccination in Covid Pandemic" to "Infrastructures & Road Building" everything like that BJP do and speed up the work very well... But also there are some flaws that BJP have "Unemployment", "Inflation", "Communal Violence", "Manufacturing setup", "Electoral Bonds", "weaponizing Govt Agency Like - ED, CBI", "Washing Machine as the corrupt politicians get in to BJP the charges are pulled off", "Trying to suppress the freedom of speech", "Desperately trying to control Election Commissioner & Supreme Court Judges Appointments" etc. So there is also some bad things... So I have the problem With those people who said Modi is God Or Supreme Leader like we ever haven't... There no one is God or Good There only is grey things exists...

My god was he powerful in what he said.loved the idea about that we can never truly define a correct path, the world has gone through sht but it doesnt lead to the fact that turmoil eats up the country.people in numbers are working for the right thing,so we can never truly disintegrate to dust unless absolute dictatorship with evil intent arrives in this country(now there are many layers particularly for india but this applies as a general rule to all countries).Bravo 👌
  • Why is Oxford so worried about India. Any genuine concern might have been appreciated.
