With Americans' student debt now over $1.5 trillion, Hasan looks at how the federal government turned the Department of Education into the largest bank in America in terms of loans, and examines the department's relationship with loan servicers. These private financial companies have benefitted from Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos' hands-off regulation that has made it easy for students to become trapped in debt.

  • @Vla3d
After watching this episode I can't stop to think that this show was cancelled because it was in someone's interest to do so. Yes, I'm thinking conspiracy.

This is what happens when everything in a country is a business
  • @HasanMinhaj
The Patriot Act audience at the latest taping had $6 million worth of outstanding student loan debt. Yes. $6 million. #DebtFucked

I’ve always found it odd that no one questions the schools themselves. Why are they charging so much for tuition, especially compared to tuition in other countries?
  • My parents dream for me was immigrating to the US, after a cuarantine binge of several late night shows we have concluded Canada or Spain

This show has the coolest looking stage with screens all over including the floor.

That NCAA joke was built up perfectly, yet was so unexpected.

"You have no ability to pick who your student loan servicer is." That really just says it all, doesn't it.

Hi from Sweden where I literally GET PAID to pursue higher education. Oh and also, I'm from Syria as well since my parents are from there, and just to let you know, education is free there too. Even higher education.

True Story: I called my student loaners and asked for lower payments. They said No. I asked, "well i only have X amount of money after essential bills.. what do you want me to do, Rob a Bank!?" She Said, "You do what you gotta do, Sir." True Story

Had to re-watch after his testimony before Congress
  • When the comedians become more trustworthy than journalists, you know the country is in trouble.

We are living in the Hunger Games, but most have not realized it yet.
  • My husband and I both graduated from BYU (as a mechanical engineer and a high school physics teacher, respectively) and because BYU tuition is only about $5k per year we managed to get through without loans. My husband had a scholarship and I used a hodgepodge of methods, including one year I paid out of pocket with my childhood college savings. I am so grateful for this miracle as I am becoming more and more aware how uncommon getting through college without loans is.
  • Mr. Minhaj, incredible testimony in front of Congress on the student loan crisis. So proud!
