So quick video for you today(check out the lidia trailer too if ya didn't, posted during the night). Its not a lot of news, but its kinda important news if you have been following along with this whole crazy Street Fighter 6 thing. The infamous decision for only 1 major balance patch for the first year of SF6, that won't be going forward come Season 2/Year 2 of the game, simple as that. All in the vid so give a watch, link to the capcom tv segment in the video description if you wanna see it for yourself, and enjoy!
  • I'm still glad they took the first year to learn. The latest patch shows shows how specific they're willing to be with some of the changes, and that probably means they know exactly what makes the game tick.

They're not reacting to the most kneejerk and terrible solution suggestions, so I think I can trust what they do.

Also tried to get the Akuma guide up today but just so much work to go just yet. 95% likely though it will be live for tomorrow morningish. It will be a BIG ONE, with tons of good stuff in it for everyone at all levels of play so stay tuned for it. Also im not done editing yet but expect it to be an hour long at minimum lol

I prefer quality to quantity, so I hope Capcom keeps up its quality work at its own pace.
  • Having Ed style balance patches would be the best sprinkled throughout the year during character releases and then having the big balance patch once a new season starts. Do agree though the spacing for dlc characters needs to be better. The wait between Aki and Ed was torture. Thankfully they're both super fun characters

A decwnt balance patch with every new dlc character makes the most sense imo

I honestly can't believe they tought 1 patch a year would be a good idea in the first place but it is what it is. The thing is that even with no patches and massive void between Aki and Ed there was consistently at least 10~15k+ active players on steam at any given moment. I can only Imagine the numbers if we get both frequent patches and hopefully cool dlc.
  • Would make a lot of sense if they just did a mid sized patch every time a new character is released

I originally thought 1 patch a year was good because people get to learn about matchups and not have a random knowledge check, but with how big the patch is i now realize it's bad, especially for mid level players. All the combos you may have learned and practiced for up to a year have changed, or in some cases completely removed. High level players will be able to change easily, low level players generally won't know but the mid level it's tough having to relearn things

Thank goodness. I read this earlier and I said a stern "yes." Keeps the game fresh and healthy!
  • @ajshiro3957
They probably did that to see how the game is for a year.

Unpopular opinion: I personally liked the game not being patched for the first year. I come from Melee so I’m used to a meta evolving naturally without patches. Also, I didn’t get a chance to play a lot every week so it was nice being able to stay up to date with the game and not feel like I’m falling behind with new patches. I know other people will have had a different experience if they played SF6 more or are used to a faster update cadence. I’m sure I’ll enjoy year two as well :)

Was a interesting test for season 1 I’m happy they switch it up

I really hope it's some stuff like every time they add a character they have a small patch and then a final retooling at the end of the year. too many patches is dull but one patch every 2 or 3 months sounds about right.

I spend most of my time in Battle Hub fighting random people on the arcades. Before the patch there was barely anyone playing there. The 1st server was usually the busiest, but any of the Beginner/Intermediate servers were nearly dead. Now that the patch is out there are actual people there. Let's hope more frequent patches will keep players visiting BH more often.
  • @DualWieldingDad
Good approach to gather as much information on the vanilla version so that they can better predict what will happen as they make smaller and more frequent changes.
  • They let the game cook for a year to see what kind of dish it actually is, now that they've figured it out they just need to keep it warm, they know what they're doing.

I don't like the idea of having a ton of patches just to get casuals to play more. There are better ways to do that. More costumes, maybe exclusive limited time colors etc. I like one patch a year and I think there shouldn't be more than two patches a year personally
