WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has pleaded guilty to one count of espionage as part of a plea deal with US authorities.

His court appearance took place on the US territory of Saipan. He left the UK on Monday after being released on bail from Belmarsh high security jail.

Addressing the court, Assange said that he broke US law by encouraging classified leaks, but said he believed the Espionage Act violates free speech.

  • This is hardly a gotcha moment sky news, given the choice of rotting in a super max in the US or worse, he chose to be free. Anyone would have taken that deal and innocent people do this regularly in a lot of court systems.

Assange is a hero. An award winning journalist. A truth teller. A absolute legend and champion of press freedom and freedom of speech who exposed the criminality and atrocities committed by the US NATO Empire during their illegal invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan that left nearly a million dead. He took on the criminal oligarchs of the US military industrial complex and the British establishment that were determined to kill him and he survived their slow crucifixion. I hope he and his family live in peace and let this be a stark warning for the rest of us in the collective west that if the American CIA had got their way then anyone speaking out against the transnational security elite would've been locked up in the Guantanamo of Britain under their fascistic rule.
