by the eternals I have never been so annoyed by a catchphrase so quickly
-
One of the best things about the bell witch story is the cast of eccentric side characters. Old Kate the town boss mama, Williams the dashing, doubting detective, Gen. Jackson and his witch hunting party. It’s like a pulp novel.
-
Excited to listen to this. You can see my umpteenth grandfather, Irvin Polk, listed on page 304 of the authenticated history as a witness to the events.
-
i like when guests come BUT this solo journey sounded extraordinary. i have always loved your voice and cadence and so this was just pure, ghost story-telling~ thank you so much for this!
-
Will be in a tractor for 12 hours tomorrow. This'll help so much! Perfect timing!
-
It’s a big local legend here. There’s a play that’s put on every year. A lot of people from here are related to the Bells and the cave is open for tours
-
It was a huge mistake trying to fall asleep listening to this 😭
-
I’m from Tn and live pretty close to the cave. I was OBSESSED with the bell witch as a kid. I was so excited to see you cover this story!!
-
more ghost stories like this, please. you've managed to include so much historical context.
-
Never apologize for giving us content! Even if it's not the content you had originally planned, or even if you don't have assistance available to deliver. We appreciate what you do for us, and I think very few of us are unable to adapt. The Bell Witch has intrigued me for decades, so thank you for going so deep into the lore!
-
I love that she just picked random people to torment but had her favorites who she fed nuts to. What a truly insane demon.
-
I love how this witch is basically just a harmless troll (except the part where she murdered John Sr).
-
"She turned me into a newt! I got better though" I wish the Bells and the Fox sisters were all locked in a cabin to fake haunt each other. With Houdini as prison guard chuckling through the window.
-
Annoying people is one thing, but stealing someone’s coffee cup and drinking their coffee is a clear declaration of war.
-
The Bell Witch has 2 hours worth of history? Cool!!
-
The Blair Witch was most likely inspired by the Moll Dyer Witch legend of Saint Mary's County, Maryland.
-
This topic and solo format was unexpectedly by far the most I've enjoyed of all the mythillogical series to date. Im hoping to have a few more like it.
-
I love folkloric stories like this! So happy you did one in the appalachian region––so much of this from that area. Thanks for your spectacular storytelling :)

40:18 that was an interesting ethical history question there of “do you accurately quote historical documents or do you avoid sounding like you’re racist?” Because, it was an accurate representation of a real historical dialect however it may sounds to modern ears. Weirdly enough I’m related to Joel Chandler Harris too through my mother. My family has been in the South a few hundred years. They turn up everywhere. lol.
