I grew up in St. Louis in the 50’s and 60’s and watched these guys being flight tested on a daily basis. I never realized how badass this beautiful killer was until I got to Vietnam.

when i was serving aboard the Uss Enterprise, a seasoned pilot, told me that the F4 was dollar for dollar the best fighter ever built.

Love to see them fully loaded for bear in Vietnam colors. I’m 62 and this is still one of my favorite military aircraft. I remember building a Revel Phantom model as a kid back in the 70’s.

My own small debt to F-4 Phantoms comes from the fact that the arrival of a bunch of them in Port Stanley, Falkland Islands, enabled me to get home for Christmas in 1982.

I was in an A-4 squadron in the 60s. The Phantoms on our bird farm carried a heavier ordnance load than an A-4's max gross takeoff weight. Color me impressed.

I still remember the sight of F4's streaking across the skys as I lay back in the rice patties laying down fire into the enemy. God love those pilots in those Phantoms! A sight I'll never forget.

I believe the F4 Phantom II once held a lot of records during its service life in North America. I think it was around 15. It is a brutishly overpowered, if not incredible, old jet. Some airforces still have them in service.
