  • You are not alone. I just placed my son in an out of district placement which I requested this placement, chose 3 schools and they picked a different one. I looked at it one day and they started him quickly. It was a month transition, and a rough one. He has several diagnosis like your son, adopted from Moldova at 2 years old. We are in the US. The high school said they couldn't keep him safe. My son will be 15 this month. He is student of the week this week, and receives a special lunch tomorrow. One day at a time. He has ADHD, sensory processing, PTSD, Oppostional Defiant D, and thanks for the earlier video where I found you, hoarding which is working toward stealing. I have a trauma counselor for him and will be getting an in home state service for behavior therapy. Smart lovable boy, talented, artistic and attention seeking and not at all quiet. I will continue to follow your wonderful posts.
  • That is lucky you were there. The experience here has been very similar. Luckily, our daughter is getting supports now and seems to be growing and gaining. Good luck with the process for both your boys.

Thanks for this Nyree, and good luck with the process! I am in the middle of the EHCP assessment for my 5 year old adopted daughter, so I share your pain re all the assessments and forms and everything it entails. I am very grateful that her teacher is amazing and is also the SENCO so knows how the process works and is on our side to get what my daughter needs and deserves. But it's still pretty overwhelming!

We have been in exactly the same predicaments. We are so so frustrated at the system. In an ideal world we feel that these children who have come from trauma should have an absolute right to regular assessments and have an automatic pathway into getting the help they need or placement they need in specialist education. They have been through enough already. Adopted parents/ foster carers have a tough job as it is with the day to day they do not need any of this extra stress. Its an absolute farcical it really is. Furthermore we equally feel like we ve let our daughter down who is now 18 because her ehcp got declined in primary and our senco never talked about contesting that decision, we didnt realise we could and now we have an 18 year old who needs support but is choosing not to be assessed because she doesnt think there is anything wrong. Bizarrely she has had one to one over the years, did less gcses, had extra time and a reader in exams...and yet when I ask for a teaching proffessional to back me up to get the help she so desparately needs, specialised help, the schools have said she is doing ok. It makes us so upset I cant tell you. She masked as well which didnt help our case. We have failed her and we too worry about her should anything happen to us. Likewise our son , a half sibling is needing the help, this time we are on this fighting tooth and nail. Waited over a year for a specialised setting placement, got one and now feeling like the glove doesnt fit. We hear you💞
