The second parappa game is technically "UmJammerLammy" which hosts a new protagonist instead of parappa. I really recommend it! The timing is less strict imo too

The freestyle rule always felt like bullshit to me, but playing this with the homies high and/or drunk is some of the best things you could do

The games's gas, but it definitely takes a bit to learn. I played the PS4 remaster a month or so ago and you're absolutely right, this shit is extremely strict. Even if you can't vibe with the gameplay, you'll definitely enjoy either the art or the music

I am so excited for when you play Um Jammer Lammy. As a fan of the PaRappa franchise for almost 6 years, lemme tell you: Um Jammer Lammy is gonna be harder if you are not experienced with rhythm games, especially stage 6, so get ready.

The funniest thing about this is how he learned that freestyling a bit would help his score in the beginning of the game, which had me hoping he would get to experience the COOL mode mechanic, but he forgets all about it after that level.
