As an old 60s kind of guy....I'm overjoyed to see the new natural hair thing happening. DEATH to fried, dyed and laid to the side! Say it loud!
  • It's so disheartening to see so many ppl, esp young girls comment here about how their moms and family say such hurtful things and are not supportive of them wanting to go natural or their natural hair journey. I really can't believe the ignorance in the black community sometimes esp with the older generation and the their views on natural hair. I just want to say that I hope those attitudes don't discourage anyone from going natural, it is one of the most liberating and best things I've even done for my hair. I too didn't have any real support outside of my husband who was very supportive. My mom, sister and aunts thought I was crazy and had smart remarks, my sister called me a bald headed biddy when I big chopped and then later on side show bob. My mom told me she could never be natural because she sees what I have to do for my hair (mind you this was the very beginning when I was still figuring out what my hair likes) but I got a tough skin and ignored it because it's my hair and it's what I wanted to do and I was done with harmful relaxers and thinking I needed to put chemicals in my hair for it to be acceptable or beautiful. Guess what? My family got over it or learned to hold their tongue because they realized it wouldn't change my mind. Now my hair is flourishing and getting long and they ask me questions or compliment me so it's all worth it in the end to stick with it. Our hair is beautiful just the way it grows from our head and hopefully the next generation will know that from the beginning and won't need to continue the cycle of relaxers. All I can stress is to please surround yourselves with as many positive images as you can whether it be vlogs, Instagram and Facebook natural hair pages they really helped me stay positive and gave me motivation and lots tips and info. Much love and happiness to everyone on their natural hair journey.

Hey guys! Thank you for all of your lovely comments. Even though I couldn't reply to all of the comments (there was no reply button on some) I read every single one of them! You all are great!!
  • my hair was till the end of my back when i was younger my mom cut it all off till my ears , and i got so depressed because my hair was the only thing covering up how fat i was, i used to straighten it , use hairsprays ,tease it and shower every day , it became horrible and stopped growing for 6 years , it only grew till my shoulder, it's been almost a year now and i didnt even decide to make my hair more natural i just really needed long beautiful hair , and i lost 80 pounds , so i thought that body wasnt enough , after that i showered my hair less i oiled it atleast 2 times a week and slept with it , i used everything natural like hair masks and all that i did at home, i forgot about heat , i just straightened it at really big occasions , like maybe 12 times last year and now my hair has became so much more healthier it grew about 4 inches which is amazing for me , my hair is luxiouriously curly , very beautiful and i'm so proud of myself for maintaining, it's very easy to start just like i lost 80 pounds alone i helped my self get amazing hair alone , all you need is everything natural  everything natural is from god and it really doesnt need anything to fix or add artificial stuff in it , try making your own diys and no matter what ya'll are beautiful and you dont need a straightner or any of that bad stuff for your hair to prove it :)

It all depends on what you're comfortable with. Yes, I believe that everyone is able to go natural because we were all born natural and our hair is in no way or form "tainted" that we need relaxers. You don't have to do a big chop though. You can always stop getting a relaxer and just do trims until you fully trim away the relaxed ends!

I am DEAF, can read your lips and thanks for the CAPTIONS!!!!!! You r a AMAZING!!! Subscribing and following you!
  • The only thing I'm scared about is my hair not growing back as fast. Like..eh idk.
  • @Jewellianna
Thank you! And I am 20, a junior in college. I did my big chop a month before starting my junior year in high school. And it's a good idea to wait if you're not comfortable yet. It's no harm in waiting! :)

Thanks for the tips.  The only thing I question is #4.  Having a hair icon, so to speak, can be motivating BUT can also set you up for disappointment when you make your BC and your hair texture is completely different from theirs.  I think we all should be ready to embrace whatever God has coming through our scalp, which you will not know until you cut off the relaxer.  Even in transition I am learning that my hair type is still not completely obvious b/c my relaxed hair is weighing it down.
  • @Jewellianna
Aww thank you so much for the support! I really appreciate it!! And thank you for your kind words also!
  • @MadeeMadness
Good God your hair is beautiful. I'm jealous 😭😭
  • @dianenone683
I must have 5C hair:} My bruised and battered hair is completely drained!!! I have been relaxing and coloring my hair for over 25 years. So that lets you know, this is MAJOR!! I only care about me, not someone else's opinion of me. That is what is so liberating about the whole journey! Getting in touch with your inner and outer beauty. Its truly amazing! THANKS SISTA!
  • @Jewellianna
Organix shampoo, Aussie Moist conditioner as a detangler and leave in and the Denman brush!!
  • @ElloChannel
But what do you do when your mom just hates your natural hair, and just gets mad when you say you don't want a relaxer. I really want grow out my natural hair. I've been getting relaxers since I was in the 5th grade, and have done my research they aren't that good for you're hair. How do you get your mom to understand that this is want and believe.
  • @Jewellianna
Thank you so much! I am glad that you enjoyed it! :)
  • @Jewellianna
I recommend to do it only if you are comfortable with cutting off your relaxed ends and are completely tired of them. If your not, then you should keep them until you are completely comfortable.
  • @Jewellianna
Thank you so much for your kind words and appreciation!! It's greatly appreciated!!
  • @Jewellianna
My hair just got wider and bigger instead of "longer", (it did get longer, it's just that it showed in volume). I didn't use anything or do anything to make my hair big... I actually try to prevent it sometimes. lol But you can always use a diffuser sometimes or pick your hair out!
  • @Abbiness88
Thank you...I've had a relaxer in my hair since I was a child for the fast 17 years. Though my relaxed hair has always grown quickly and seemed healthy,  my mother and sister wear their natural hair and I've always envied their curls. The idea of having to make the big chop terrified me. You and all these other natural and transitioning hair vloggers gave me the courage to go through with the transition. I've cut 8 inches of my relaxed hair and now been transitioning a month. good job :).
  • @Jewellianna
Awww thank you very much!! And THANK YOU for watching!!
