Chronic Illness Essentials

Published 2023-04-29
Living with chronic illness is hard, but there are things that can make life a little bit easier. Here are 3 of my chronic illness essentials!

1️⃣ Earplugs

I have auditory processing difficulties and sound sensitivity, affecting my migraine and complex PTSD, as well as impacting on my pain and fatigue levels. Loop Earplugs, recommended by another neurodiverse friend, have been a game changer. No longer do playdates or crowded spaces overwhelm me and I have been able to comfortably take part in activities that would otherwise have been extremely uncomfortable and even triggering.

I use the Engage earplugs during the day when sound becomes too much and the Quiet at night to improve my quality of sleep.

2️⃣ Bullet Journal

I’ve been using a bullet journal for several years now and find it the best system for keeping my brain organised. I have pages for hospital appointments, contact details of specialists and medication I take. As well as organising my physical health, my bullet journal helps me manage my mental health, giving me a space to organise my thoughts and keep on top of daily life, reducing my mental load and helping with my memory.

3️⃣ Medication Organiser

I didn’t get on with flip up medication dispensers . I found them too hard to open and ended up hurting myself. Then when they were in my bag, they’d open and drop tablets everywhere! Not good. I found some stacking jars in a pharmacy travel products section and have been using one ever since!
