Thursday Night Poetry June Week 2: The Cowboy Archetype and travels from Texas to New Mexico

Published 2024-06-14
Hi,

I'm taking inspiration from the booktube reading event June on the Range, hosted by ‪@michaelk.vaughan8617‬

In week 2 of June, I'm reading poems that feature the cowboy archetype. I'm also traveling by way of these poems from Texas to New Mexico. I look forward to continuing the journey north in the next couple of weeks in the month of June.

Books mentioned:
Poems of the American West, edited by Robert Mezey. Everyman's Library Pocket Poets, Knopf 2002.

Poetry of the American West, a Columbia Anthology, edited by Alison Hawthorne Deming. Columbia University Press 1996.

Poems read:
The Streets of Laredo (folksong)
Lonestar State of Mind by Fred Koller (Western song lyrics)
In Texas: Variation on a Theme of Borges' by Robert Mezey
Ruidoso, N.M. by Ron Koertge
Men in New Mexico by D.H. Lawrence
Cow Boy's Lament by Anonymous

Thank you for watching.

hasta la proxima,
Mariandrea
