"The Rocket Comeback" (Cowboys vs. Redskins, 1999)

I don't know why, but I really love late-90s-early 2000s NFL broadcasts. Wasn't so much crap all over the screen. Just the stuff we really needed to know.

Cowboys only road win in 1999 in an 8-8 season where they made the playoffs as the 5-seed & got trounced by 4-seed Minnesota (Wild Card, Tampa was the 2 as NFC Central division champions) Washington won the NFC East, beat Detroit in the 3-6 matchup, lost in Tampa on a bobbled snap at the gun Rams went from worst to Super Bowl champion by stopping the Titans a yard short of a touchdown

This was the first game with Dan Snyder as the owner for the Redskins. Oh if only their fans knew back then...

Weird hearing Troy Aikman being mentioned as a part of a game on the field rather than hearing him in the booth on FOX.

Remember when you actually had to pay attention to the first down markers. Ah memories.

Michael Irvin was phenomenal he's definitely up there with the other greats like Rice, Owens, Moss, Carter, Harrison etc.

I wonder how well the '99 Cowboys would've done if Michael Irvin hadn't suffered a career ending injury?

Still gives me the chills today. My fav OT win! That touch pass from Aikman was a beauty! And that crowd noise!!!

What I learned this week: Redskins apparently like to blow big leads

I remember watching this game and how incredible Dallas's come back was with a 35-14 deficit in the forth quarter! I also remember how NFL Prime Time did only about 10 seconds of highlights from this game! It was games like this one that they used to give great commentary on and bring out all the drama of the game combined with the highlights that made that show so great and sometimes better to watch then the games themselves! But those days are long gone and NFL Prime Time is only a shell of what it used to be.

I remember being so hyped for the Cowboys season after this game

One of my favorite games of all time. I remember being 14, watching this game in a Bay Area sports bar (only place I could watch Cowboy games at the time). I went from feeling so hopeless going into the 4th quarter to pure elation following the Rocket OT game-winner. From that moment, if a team was down three scores going into the 4th quarter, I always used this game as the barometer that the chance of a comeback is possible. Thank you NFL Throwback for posting this CLASSIC.

I remember this Game, 1 of My Favorite Cowboy Game ever.

The comeback had more to do with Michael Irvin than Rocket Ismail.
