I moved to Taiwan with Kyle, one of my best friends from middle school, in 2011. He loved it here, but found that career opportunities for foreigners in Taiwan were limited. Today he shares his experience of living, working, and dating in Taiwan compared with the US.

會想學當地語言很不容易，尤其是美國人。我表妹是土生土長美國人，也是Ivy League畢業，也同時會說中英文，他們鄰居就常說不需要學其他語言，美語就夠了。其實我也理解這種想法，對美國人來說會美語就能走遍全世界

這個訪問提到了一個外國人在台灣生活很關鍵的問題，那就是在台灣的就業生涯發展選擇太有限了，連母語英語的外國人都這樣，更何況是非英語母語但英語良好及英語普通或不好的，那在台灣生活及工作選擇更窄小了。這也涉及到台灣（就算僅是大都會的台北）是否能國際化的問題。

This guy is smart, really good at articulating his views and I appreciate his honesty. As a Taiwanese that went to an international school in Hong Kong and studied abroad after, I often reminiscence the freedom and happiness I had visiting Taiwan and spending my holidays there growing up and the sort of indescribable exuberance that can’t be found elsewhere in the world 😢❤.
