I'm so happy there was no sequel to water down this extraordinary masterpiece.

"Priest, I'm too slow to get through the door before it closes. Here, take the key and open it again so I can get out. Priest? Priest, are you there?"

I went to the movie theater as a teen, hadn't watched a trailer or even had the slightest hint of what was it about or who was in it. You can imagine how I was blown away. It was epic, fun, exciting, and didn't take itself too seriously. Wow one of the best experiences at the cinema.

I like how the Mondoshawans look and sound kind of intimidating, but are actually pretty chill dudes and are very helpful.

"Time not important. Only life important." -- one of the most profound things I've ever heard, and it came from Bruce Willis's Fifth Element. Epic!
  • This whole intro is as fresh and original as the day it came out. Still pining for a full story of the Mondoshawans, the aliens we wish were really looking after us all.

Whenever a room is too dark I sometimes yell "light Aziz!". And then my wife looks at me like I'm an idiot.
  • I absolutely love the design of the Mondoshawans. They're somewhat grotesque and even goofy, but it makes them all the more imposing and indecipherable. Their costumes are detailed, but made of such simple shapes and color that it instantly makes them memorable. They're seen in full light, but since we have no idea what they look like under the armor (if there even is something under it), they remain mysterious. It's a perfect look for a race of mystical sentinels that dedicate their existence to protecting the universe.

A most underrated movie.... one of the best Sci Fi movies ever made.
  • The Mondoshawans, like everything else in this film looked absolutely amazing. Absolute blast of of a movie with every actor going way over the top with their performances...which worked a charm in this enviroment. Gold standard sci-fi, gold standard film.

The costume designer was in the opening credits. Allways the sign of a good movie.
  • "are you German?" Hilarious esp since the alien seems to understand what that means.
  • @ShadowArtist
"AZIZ! LIGHT!" bright as frak landing lights switch on "that's much better, thank you Aziz"
  • @Wraithbored
I love it how the children mimic the lumbering movement of the Mondoshawans at 3:36, like they saw the Mondoshawans before.

The musical score in this movie is one of the more amazing in film. It taught me to appreciate something I never took notice of in movies with the possible exception of the Star Wars movies. Unfortunately now I notice how most studios just crank up the volume, looking at you Disney, rather than have a good decent score.

One of the best opening scenes to set up a film that I’ve seen, honestly can’t think of any way this could have been improved.

In my childhood (was 16 when it came out) was my life goal to watch this movie on a home theatre setup that i personally find good, and select together piece by piece. After that long wait, I've managed to have it. Watched it yesterday. In my own house, (no debts) on a 40" 4k Ambilight tv on a yamaha hdmi amplifier with a 5.1 TAGA setup. The feeling was priceless. =)
  • Loved this movie when I was a teen, and still do, it has aged better than other 90's SciFi's, the CGI and practical effects/costumes were second to none and still look great today, Gary Oldman pulled off the bad guy role really well, Milla Jovovich mmmm and a perfect "Die Hard" style performance from Bruce Willis as always oh and Chris Tucker, such a funny performance, I never get tired of watching this movie! If you haven't seen it, stream it tonight!
  • I loved this movie as a kid, just one of the pieces of media that have solidified my love of science fiction.
