i once donated some money for a fund saving the Kiwis :) I am thinking about adopting one, it costs only $50/year!

This little guy is a ball (literally) of pure cuteness.
-
only one egg in a year ,no self defence equipment ,,nor they fly ,,, and they are nearly blind its facinating to see how they survived thousands of years
-
It appears the fruit has sprouted a beak and feet. We must protect this little guy at all costs.

We have a very robust set of programmes in place to ensure kiwi and kākāpō don’t go extinct. A few notes on kiwi for those interested: 1. Their nostrils are at the tips of their bills, rather than at the top. Their sense of smell and ability to sense vibration with this bill is outstanding. 2. The egg is huge, meaning a takes up huge amounts of space in the hen’s body. It needs to hatch a very independent chick, so the egg needs to be large. The chick hatches with an attached yolk large enough to sustain it for around ten days, so it doesn’t need feeding. 3. Kiwi burrow, and have adapted to have feathers that hinge, so they can move forwards and backwards when in closely confined spaces. 4. Both the parents incubate the egg. 5. Kiwi get the zoomies. It’s hilarious.

Most cute things don't make me cry, but this actually made me tear up a bit

That's about the exact size and spherical goodness of my miniature silkie hen Pompon. Even the feather structure is the same. Differences: - she's completely black - she has slightly larger (cute, black) eyes - her beak is much shorter - she has little stubby wings, that she can flap to slow down a fall or jump from a low height (she can not fly in a traditional sense; other chicken breeds can at least fly well enough to escape over a 5 foot fence or get on top of a compost bin) - she's quite competitive when it comes to food: she loves grapes and will do her best to snatch one away from the bigger hens. Although she can't swallow it whole, she'll clamp onto it (super proud that she managed to steal one) and run away as fast as her stubby legs allow, to find a safe space where she can rip it apart and eat the remains - she's technically an adult: almost a year old now and lays tiny pink eggs For comparison with the kiwi, image search "silkie chicken".
