Watching TO tear apart another radio. Merry Christmas to me!
  • I worked for kenwood for 32 years. you are the first person to recognise JIS screws. 10/10 for you.
  • @dondonaldson1684
Nice video! Pretty good tear down and simple battery replacement.

Just got one of these TS-570Ds about 2 months ago. Just got my antenna stuff ready (a TennTennas transformer and 132 feet of 26 gauge wire - I hope to be able to put the wire up in the attic (HOA restrictions - Townhome.... sigh). I can hardly wait to fire it up !!!! (I hope it will tune and be efficient up in the attic). It is a Beautiful radio.... much more advanced than what I used back in 1989 (HW-101 and SB-104A). 73's !!!
  • That repair looks so simple I believe I could actually do it. Thanks, Steve.
  • @ThumpMaster6
As you found out, you only needed to take out the top two side screws, loosen the bottom side screws while leaving the faceplate and knobs in place. You’ll be so much faster the next time! Glad you are on Team 570!

Thanks for the video. I have a ts-570d. Never replaced the battery. Should probably change it out.

Normally, changing the setup battery is recommended to perform the radio setup, otherwise the battery drains quickly. Setup battery replacement. Procedure: Once you have access to the battery, remove it and then turn on the radio and turn it off. then do the reset, still with the radio off, press and keep in this condition the "A=B" key and reconnect by the "POWER" key. Now release the "A=B" key and place the new battery in socket while still "POWER ON". Under these conditions the battery consumption will be normal. Still power on, do measure the battery voltage, if the "reset" has been done, this measurement will be very close to same measure in the battery being out of socket ie no load.
  • Nice Christmas Vid! Thanks and Merry Christmas to everyone!. Just wanted to make one point, while some radios have the battery, some do not, and just write the info to a non-volatile memory chip. To save the limited number of write cycles to the chip, they don't update each time you spin the VFO.. but instead write at shut down. Those that do that, don't like just loosing power by turning off the power supply. The power button allows it to write the data to the memory and do a orderly shut down. Just something to keep in mind when "powering down".

I used this radio TS-570D 20 years ago. I still have in storage somewhere. The only problem I remembered having is the LCD screen with water drops inside. Maybe due to the climate of my country. Jose / HP2AT.

My TS-930S has those batteries on the top, and a sliding cover to reach them. I may start the replacing of it's main power supply today.
  • Wish the clock battery in my Icom 7300 would be this easy. Great video. Kenwood thinks things out a bit more.
  • @f1lby
Ace! My TS570 no longer has 'dementia' every time its powered off.
  • @W6IWN_Radio
You should MARS mod it and add some shinny new knobs while you're in there. Hopefully the battery has a long lifespan. Thanks for the video!
  • @pasjeihobby
Tbh I could watch relays, coils and all that stuff all day ;)
  • @2EOGIY
If you look for the datasheet for this speaker, it will be the cheapest one o the market, and you can easily find a replacement with a higher dynamic range?
  • @DonzLockz
Easy fix to save alot if vfo turning or remembering what frequency you were on.👍
