I don't think the Assist thing in gen 5 was a secret effect, I think it was a bug, and they didn't remove it in gen 6, they fixed it.

Oh I know this one!! Body Slam not being able to paralyze normal types in Gen 1 was due to a coding oversight. Electric type moves are coded to not paralyze pokemon of the same type (so electric types couldn't be paralyzed) but the coding was applied to all paralysis moves, making normal types unable to be paralyzed by normal type moves. This also made electric types able to be paralyzed by tri-attack
  • Gen 3 doesn't tell you that there's a coding error with protect and it wont work if a 2 turn move is used as the move will use both turns at once and hit thru the protect
  • I think the reason why ability outside of battle thing is removed in scarlet and violet is because these abilities I think works well when there’s not a lot of Pokemon just scattered though-out the overworld. So Arena trap like you said double the encounter rate but there’s no reason to do this when you’re surrounded by Pokémon in the overworld. Same thing with the opposite effect, why have it when Pokémon are everywhere in the over world.
  • Fire-Types innately being able to hatch eggs faster would be great. It would be redundant with Flame Body, Magma Armor, and Steam Engine, as the only one that technically isn't exclusive to Fire-Types is Steam Engine with Rolycoly being pure Rock until it evolves into a Fire-Type, but those abilities do have in-battle effects, so I'm sure it wouldn't outright eliminate them.
  • Pickup was my favorite ability for years lol. I stay running around with a party of five pachirisu lol

Man, I forgot about the hidden ability mons in Gen 5. Those games really had so much love put into them!
  • I knew about the Assist thing! It was so much fun- I used to score random Eggs off GTS Negotiations, then have a Purrloin use Assist with just the Eggs on hand, and try to guess what would hatch based on what Purrloin would use.

As I understand it, Normal types not being paralyzed by Body Slam in Gen 1 is basically an oversight in the system that makes Pokémon immune to conditions caused by moves of their own type. It makes sense for Fire, Ice, and Poison of course since they're immune to their respective effects, and I know Twineedle is specifically set up to not poison Poison types.

Thunder and Blizzard don't break through Protect or Detect during rain or hail respectively anymore, BUT their accuracy still goes from 70 to 100.
  • I find it interesting that I found out by myself without the help of the internet about the Lapras in gen 2 - but I never knew about the Rotom in gen 6, even though the internet would have been available to look stuff up.
  • @hostiledodo1150
So Assist was basically Metronome but only with your party's moves? Neat!
  • @metleon
The Thunder and Blizzard Protect glitch happens when a move is given perfect accuracy due to an effect. So you can also trigger it Lock-On/Mind Reader and No Guard. The chance to hit through Protect is equal to 100 minus its normal accuracy, so a No Guard Machamp's Dynamic Punch will break through 50% of the time, for example.
  • I feel like that dream radar thing would be busted if they had any low-level moves I could learn but most legendaries first move is something that can't do damage with and all the other ones are learned like in the 40s and after
  • @Smouv
'Out of battle abilities got removed from Scarlet and Violet'. That's just flat out wrong. For example Flame Body still helps hatching eggs faster for one.
  • Posion types will not miss toxic i dont know when thay added that but its cool
