The Leventina Valley (Valle Leventina) stretches from Airolo at the southern end of the Gotthard Pass to Biasca. The Ticino River flows through it. The valley lies on a north-south axis that is important in Europe. The Gotthard Pass at the upper end of the Leventina influenced the history of the valley for centuries. First the old Gotthard road ran through the Leventina, later the Gotthard railway and then the A2 motorway linking Chiasso with Basel. The south portal of the Gotthard Base Tunnel, the longest railway tunnel in the world, is located in Bodio.
Airolo is located at the southern end of the Gotthard road tunnel (1146 metres / 3760 feet). The Gotthard road tunnel has a length of approx. 17 kilometres (16,942 metres or 10.5 miles) and was the longest road tunnel in the world at the time of construction (1980).
Biasca lies at the end of the Leventina Valley at 305 metres above sea level, 19 km north of Bellinzona, the capital of the canton of Ticino.

Wow a beautiful scene around every corner of this drive. I've had the pleasure to drive the Swiss roads back in 2015 when I drove from Germany to Italy. Loved how well-maintained the roads were.
