Ive done a lot of things for acting, but watching a horror movie alone in a dark room is not going to be one of them

90% of acting is voice control. you get the right voice, your body will naturally feel the emotions and start acting as if you were actually physically feeling them

Robert, I just want to say a big "Thank You" for sharing this. I truly truly appreciate it. All my years training in LA, no one has ever put it as simple and effective as you did. I kept wondering why it was so difficult for me to connect with the characters I audition for or if I'm in my head to much...but it made complete sense what you just said. I suppressed so much of my emotions, it's no wonder I couldn't deliver raw truth. Thank you for the light switch. 😊💡

How am supposed to express emotion When I got the emotional range of a teaspoon?
  • @EAmeda7
I can't begin to tell you how helpful this is. I never thought to train the instruments with movies themselves!

Yes, in the darkened room, alone. You know what happens in those situations.

Great advice! I was just sat here listening to what you were saying while picturing a scene from the movie Warm Bodies (a sad one, to me) and i started crying. Definitely works! I usually use this method when I need to draw on emotions for acting in my web series (I have some quite dramatic scenes were I break down or get really mad)

I've always wanted to act ever since I was a little kid. I've been watching your videos lately and they've been helping me out a lot. These videos are great! Can't wait for more of them! :D

A good movie to do this with is Stuck in Love. It is on Netflix and is one of my favorites. The emotions of the actors help you open up yourself. They seem to emote in a free way and I feel all of the emotion every single time I watch it. I've seen it at least ten times!
  • Wow. Such simple, concise, amazing advice. Thank you so much. Time to try.

Thank you for the tip. I have an audition coming up and I for sure need to try this.

can i listen to emotionally evocative music instead of a movie?
  • This is great! I'm coming at this exercise from the the viewpoint of a musician, and the possibilities seem pretty cool.

  • Watch Hachi, that movie about the dog who's owner died. I cried for 42 minutes.
