I used a vitamin c serum back in July and ended up with 2 weeks of tiny bumps all over my face. At first I thought it was heat rash but it was so bad. Went to a derm and it turned out that the vitamin c did give me a reaction but the derm recognized more and sent me to see a rheumatologist. After many tests it turned out I have MCTD. Imagine trying skincare only to have a reaction that leads to the discovery of an unrelated autoimmune disease.

Dr Stephens, you’re back, we missed you, hope all is well with you and the family
  • @Truffoire
Her skin is insanely clear. Literally flawless.💐💐💐
  • I’ve been afraid of vitamin c because I thought they were all the same, and every product I tried seemed to make me break out. After watching this I started reviewing old products I used in the last…lo and behold, THD was the only vitamin c derivative i hadn’t tried. I bought the Pillowtalk Derm moisturizer per your suggestion a few weeks ago and it is a DREAM for my oily / acne-prone skin!! It’s become my daily ❤ Also really happy to finally find a black woman esthetician who understands pigmented skin. THANK YOUUUU 🙏🏽

Your skin is absolutely gorgeous. I wouldn't expect anything less from a dermatologist, Great content.
  • @RachelReaiah
These options are not budget friendly for me, but I enjoyed how knowledgeable you are and information very well presented

My skin is more sensitive than I realized. The Vanicream Vitamin C feels great going on and doesn’t cause irritation. 😁
  • I’ve been using April Skin 20% Vitamin C for 2 years. It has been a lifesaver as far as hyperpigmentation and made my skin Dewey/radiant.

I listened w/interest....& am going to try the CeraVe.....but, I have to admit, I just kept admiring your headwrap! It's beautiful. Love the shade of blue....such a pretty print & looks great on you. You have the friendliest face!
  • This is such a helpful video for anyone looking to incorporate vitamin C into their skincare routine! For those dealing with acne, DermalMD Acne Serum is a great option as it contains vitamin C as well as other powerful ingredients to help combat breakouts and fade dark spots. Plus, it's suitable for all skin types. Definitely worth checking out!

I've been using just a derivative of vitamin c, called Tru C. My serum is clear, somewhat thick, but has been really gentle on my skin. So far so good. My skin is wayyy to sensitive for L-a sorbic acid.
  • my skin loves it. Have never had an issue and I thank my lucky stars everyday. When it works for you, IT WORKS.
  • This is so timely, I was recently looking for vitamin C and didn’t understand the breakdown of which one to use for my sensitive skin. Thanks Dr. Stephens! 😊

from Trinidad and Tobago with love, thank you for the detailed vid, as a wax-tech am now getting in facials and skin care, this has been super helpful, will share with my class group
  • I am so happy you mentioned the Cerave Vitamin C 10%. I have used two tubes so far and I do keep it in the refrigerator to extend even farther. I will try the L'Oreal one as well as that has also been recommended to me but it has big shoes to fill from the Cerave.

I like the Day Dream serum from Bubble Skincare. I started using it for the niacinamide, but then noticed it has SAP as the 2nd ingredient and other stuff like alpha arbutin and ceramides. It has really helped with my hyperpigmentation. They do sell it in stores now, but they have sales all the time on their website so I like to wait to stock up.
  • Hi Dr Stephens, thank you for breaking down the vitamin C. I had a terrible experience with vitamin C when I first started it about 3 years ago. Left me with hyperpigmentation. But, I found this wonderful doctor named Dr Stephens 😊Thank you again and Happy Holidays to you and your beautiful family! 🥰

Naturium works very well as well. I'm on my 2nd bottle! It's vitamin C serum is also very hydrating.
  • Hi Dr. Stephens! I'm like 5 minutes new to your videos & I've been able to find most of the answers to my questions, but I have a few that I haven't seen. I am turning 54 (passing for 45) in a few weeks & my parents genes are AMAZING!! I've never had facial skin problems (acne, dark spots, wrinkles, dry patches) that some people of color have. I recently fell ill & lost 60+ pounds very rapidly & in an unhealthy manner. I'm an autoimmune patient & have had 'moon face' for the past 20 years from medications. I have high cheek bones & now that I'm recovering, I'm starting to notice what look like hollow (sunken) areas. I don't wear makeup & for the first time in my life I look very pale. There's puffiness & swelling over & under my eyes (dropping lids) that may have been there for years (?) but was hidden under the 'steroid face'. I have very sensitive combination skin & I've been hesitant to use anything near my eyes except cooling gel packs. I guess you can say botox would be an easier fix, but I don't want easy, I want safe & healthy. How can I treat this & do you have any videos I can reference?
  • @MakeupAZ
