Windows will screenshot me switching to Linux
  • @Nope-gu3ph
The fact that Recall's data wasn't encrypted is INSANE, what the actual fuck
  • @gresh1134
"Hacked" implies there was any level of security to circumvent in the first place 💀
  • @skelebro9999
Microsoft recalling the "Recall" is quite ironic, I'd say.
  • @jsadecki1
Windows is employing the same tactic described in "The Rum Diary": to build one hotel, you propose constructing an entire street of hotels. The ensuing public outcry leads to a compromise where you agree to build just one, which was your actual goal from the start. Similarly, Windows has adopted this strategy to introduce their recall in a subtle manner. They anticipated significant backlash, but by initiating the process sooner, they have managed to reach the agreement they originally wanted in the first place.

Recall is literally a PR nightmare. Who at Microsoft thought this was a good idea? Windows 11’s reputation was already bad, this made it worse.
  • @picklypt
I hope people move to linux because of recall.
  • @skelebro9999
Only a while until Microsoft just takes away the option to opt-in and enables it by default, like what they have done with pretty much every piece of telemetry with many recent versions of Windows.
  • While I'm glad that Microsoft was basically FORCED to listen to the backlash from Recall and was basically FORCED to disable it by default, that just goes to show that it took such a massive backlash just to get through that maybe that Recall should have not been enabled by default. Also, who the actual hell wants Recall in its current form!? (Apart from Microsoft and all of the A.I. bros?)
  • the worse part of recall is it protects drm but not your passwords/bank account data
  • @coolworx
And now Adobe assumes your creative content is free for the taking to feed their AI training models. They weren't kidding when they said "You will own nothing and be happy". Even our ideas/minds aren't out of bounds for pilfering by these F-ing pirates. Has there ever been a better time to market Linux to the masses?
  • @sprinklednights
"Linux distribution disabling something by default for the sake of security", truly a Linux moment. "Windows having security issues", truly a Windows moment.
  • @Rustmilian
It doesn't matter if it's disabled by default, an attacker WILL just re-enable it once they get access to your PC, it's just a free built-in spyware.
  • @starman7811
Will they be taking screenshots of people burning a Linux ISO to a USB Stick. 😅
  • @eshwayri
If Recall requires biometrics to decrypt the data then the AI can only process the screen-shots while you are using the PC. So other than the glaring security hole, it will also slow down your PC.
  • @GladeSwope
Recall, also known as Windows 1984, 40th Anniversary Edition got hacked? Redundant. It already hacks itself.
  • @Banana_Knight
The thing is, just because Microsoft disables that Recall feature, it doesn’t mean they can’t have a “bug” later and “accidentally” reenable it and also “accidentally” have that data sent to there servers to be one of the biggest data brokers in the world later and just sell it. Businesses need to start moving away from Windows, that’s where it’s gonna be a real issue for any corporation and businesses globally that have Windows on all the machines they use. Yes, you need the hardware but everything will have some kinda neural processing unit in them as everyone is pushing it out faster than ever and when everyone needs to upgrade there hardware later, well you’ll have the embedded hardware and Microsoft’s spyware ready to be enabled at any time……..
  • @Claude_Lib
Probably my only issue with KDE, and it's not really KDE's problem, is that a metric ton of apps are built using GTK so they look right at home when using GNOME.

I've been following a few Linux channels, including Nick for a while now. Finally made the switch. My dying laptop feels so much more functional now
