Georgia's president vetoes media law that has provoked weeks of protests

Published 2024-05-18
Georgia’s president on Saturday vetoed the so-called “Russian law” targeting media that has sparked weeks of mass protests. President Salome Zourabichvili, who is increasingly at odds with Georgia’s ruling party, said on Saturday that the law contradicts Georgia’s constitution and “all European standards,” and added that it “must be abolished.” The ruling party, Georgian Dream, has a majority sufficient to override Zourabichvili’s veto, and is widely expected to do so in the coming days. #georgia #protest #law

I was expecting the US state of Georgia from the headline, but this wonderful woman has far more courage. I hope she survives.

Salome De sakes Ville* should be registered as a foreign lobby agent, btw, Europe is Russia as well, The Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) (22 U.S.C. § 611 et seq.) is a United States law that imposes public disclosure obligations on persons representing foreign interests.[1][2] It requires "foreign agents"—defined as individuals or entities engaged in domestic lobbying or advocacy for foreign governments. Enjoy idiocracies and their avariceSouS* minions!

Dear Georgia, do not fear the russian regime! Be strong! Much love from Poland!! ❤️🇵🇱🇬🇪❤
  • It is kinda interesting to call the 'foreign agent'-law the Russian law. This is just done to influence the public. And if this law is that bad how come the US has its own 'foreign agent'-law namely the Foreign Agents Registration Act. As far as I understood NGOs and independent media have to register as 'foreign agents' if they receive more than 20% of their funding from foreign donors. I would call this transparency and do not see any issue with that and apparently the US has a similar law so they like transparency too it seems ;)

this woman is a freign agent herself, she uswd to be French ambassador in Georgia and French citizen. these poor little countries eae just too easy to be manipulated by the west😢
  • It is interesting that in the Western media there is no trace of the protests in New Caledonia over the new electoral law supported by Macron, but wide coverage is given to the popular protests in Georgia over a law that has also existed in the USA since 1938 and that Viktor Orban would like to introduce also in the EU.
