"YOU have an anti-tank rifle. Over there is a tank. FIGURE IT OUT!!!!"
  • @Treblaine
"Good news, we've developed a replacement for the Boys Anti Tank Rifle." "Great, so you made something far smaller, lighter and with less recoil?" [looking at weight of PIAT on spec sheet] "umm, it's MUCH more effective, that's the important thing."

    Ah yes, the Ant-tank rifle

“What is that?” “Grizzly single-shot .50 caliber BMG, based on a World War 1 anti-tank cartridge.” “Anti-tank?!”

What’s ironic is that this would probably be more useful in the Pacific against Japanese armor.

The “stop that tank” film brought back memories for how it made me pass history before I graduated Highschool, one of the films that actually saved me from failing 😂

The great grandfather of the modern Anti Material Weapon. Lousy against armour but could stop any wheeled vehicle with a single shot through the engine block. A friend of mine here in Oz somehow managed to get his hands on a Boys and later on two rounds of ammo. I missed the shoot but it was apparently just on dusk in a marshy area near his property, the three things that everyone remembers were the report, the muzzle flash and the clouds of vicious mosquitoes stirred into action by the flash and muzzle gases.
  • "Charlie the Bastard".....that is such an Australian nickname. And it's so good it should replace the official designation. Mind you, the Finnish 20mm AT rifle.....what would an Australian have called that monster?
  • Thank you for using the Australian war Memorial footage. It's also ANZAC day here in Australia.

The PIAT was originally called the Blacker Bombard, which the british army thought sounded silly, Churchill opined that after the Boy's anti tank rifle the Blacker Bombard wasn't so silly
  • I remember reading an old WWII magazine article which reported that during the post-WWII skirmishes between China and Taiwan around the Kinmen Islands, American military advisors used Boys anti-tank rifles modified with Japanese tank telescopic sights as improvised sniper rifles to harass Chinese soldiers.

That must have been traumatizing for the rifle user... you're already within a 100 yards, the steel monster is bearing down on you, and your shots have no effect.

I was stopped in my tracks with this one Johnny
  • @Chihuathan
It may not be that great of a gun, but it certainly is one hell of a name! Gunning down half tracks with The Boys
  • @AB-bg7os
My favorite depiction is in Company of Heroes 2, where if you order it to fire at infantry, the Boys rifle turns them into minced meat
  • @tuffsheddweller
Man the animation done in the Walt Disney-instructional video is so well-done.
