The Seine River is an integral part of Paris — and of the 2024 Olympics. Athletes in some swimming events will compete in the river, despite questions about if the river would be safe to race in. Jeff Glor has more.

"CBS Saturday Morning" co-hosts Jeff Glor, Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson deliver two hours of original reporting and breaking news, as well as profiles of leading figures in culture and the arts. Watch "CBS Saturday Morning" at 7 a.m. ET on CBS and 8 a.m. ET on the CBS News app.

Absolutely insane thinking that the river could be clean enough for swimming after being polluted for so many years I know that some politician swam in the river to prove that it's clean since then I haven't seen her is she now in the hospital!!!

On 17 October 1961, the police killed at least 100 protesters, some of whom were thrown into the River Seine, making it one of the darkest pages of France's chequered colonial history.
