The Bonderam festival is celebrated every year during the month of August on Divar Island in Goa. Bonderam comes from the Portuguese word meaning flag. Therefore Bonderam Festival means Festival of Flags.
The Konkani word RENDER means toddy tapper. It means a person who climbs a coconut tree to extract a juice (toddy) from the coconut tree. This Juice is used for fermentation and preparation of an alcoholic beverage.
