Here's the wife's recipe for pickled beets. Yes she cheats. LOL When boiling beets simply add the vinegar, sugar and spices directly to the water. Once boiled and soft, allow to cool, then peel and eat....it's already pickled!!!! She won't eat store bought and usually just boils in salted sugared water without the vinegar, this way she only cooks a few at a time and eats them fresh each time. Thanks for the video, it was a great learning experience even for an old timer like us!!

I make a beet coconut smoothie and it is so good. I put beets, banana, pineapple, mixed berries, coconut milk and water. It's so good and gives me energy!
  • How modern could this video have been 8 years ago? My God, great work girl!

I like to make beet hummus. Half chick peas and half red beets. Delicious and really looks good in the dip dish.

Lately one of the local grocers has been carrying beets with the most luscious greens attached. (The talented Hutterite farmers here are able to grow and harvest quite late in the year). I lucked out a few days ago while picking my bunches of beets and someone before me had actually removed the greens from what looked like would have been 3 bunches, and set them neatly aside. Can’t imagine anyone not loving beet greens! The grocer said I could have them to add to my bag so I ended up with a whole lot of extra free greens, yum!

I'm trying them for the first time today. I bought one and am gonna stem it like you did. Thanks for the video.

Yes! Thank you. Some cooks are peeling beets. So glad you showed the fast, easy way.
  • Great info. Thank you! I actually went to the store after and bought beets and followed instructions just as you have said. Then, forwarded this video to family. Niiiiccceeee.

this is great Dani, I have been roasting my beets, on parchment paper and gloves to peal, I use vinegar, water, coconut sugar and ground cloves, red onion. I love them also add the leaves to my smoothie. take care

Great video! I’ve never cooked beets before, but a recipe I’m using is calling for them and this was super informative. I won’t have a stained wood chopping board or waste the greens now!

Had my first beet smoothie this morning loved it. I used melon, beet, pine nuts, mango and a handful of greens. Delicious BTW. Besides all health benefits also good for libido in men. Considering its march was lucky to find even 1 beet with foilage still attached but I did. Will start growing my own. Thanks for your helpful hints on beets.

Great video. We use baseball size, cut in 4th's, pressure cook for 25-30 min. Run over luke warm water and rub the skins off, chop. Then vinegar/olive oil, salt and pepper. Our kids, even as adults love them!

Hello, love the video. I learned to cut the greens off it. I make a salad with red and greens together definitely oil and vinegar and I add some kind of pepper to it too. Sometimes sub vinegar with fresh diced lemon. On occasion use feta cheese. I never use salt.

Thank you so much for sharing. I've always ate my beets out of the can. I know it's bad, but I never knew what to do with the raw form. Thanks for the tutorial. Love your videos :)
  • @MarolineChayee
Just learned a lot. Had to run in the kitchen when you said take the greens of. I had them on for 2 days and didn't even know they were going bad. Thanks 😘
  • @Castaway_Chuck
I'm addicted to my local health food store's juice called the color splash; one beet root, ginger, lemon, garlic, carrot, spinach and kale. Awesome!
  • hi Dani I always love to roast my beets in the oven with turnips, rutabaga, carrots, and red onion all cut up the same size so they cook evenly. A little olive oil, salt and pepper. YUM!
  • @denisec4043
Gr8 info, thanks. I juice my beet roots & saute the greens in a little (avocado, grapeseed or olive) oil, salt & pepper.
