After losing three straight games, the Panthers came out on top in Game 7 to beat the Oilers and lift their first Stanley Cup in franchise history. TSN Hockey analyst Cheryl Pounder and TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button join SC with Jay Onrait to discuss how the Panthers were able to come up with the win after the series seemed to be slipping away, Stuart Skinner’s performance in Game 7, what the future holds for the Oilers, Connor McDavid’s legacy and much more.

  • The reason the Oilers lost is the same as why they lost the first 3 and won the last 3. It was the 3rd and 4th lines that stepped up and showed that they can score too. Why did Knobloch change the lineup and reduce the ice time for the only lines that were scoring? If you make the top lines play too much, it makes them tired and useless. It also makes the bottom 2 lines feel useless. This is a team sport, and it takes the whole team to make a winning combination.

Answer: Panthers showed back up and got back to their game they've perfected over the past 210 games.
  • Panthers did what they needed to do. They sealed the boards and they shut down the rush, which is what was killing them for the three previous games. Bobrovsky got his game back. They forced the Oilers to play dump and chase, which is not their game. They played smart and they won.

What changed for Florida to win game 7? Proceeds to talk about the Oilers for 13 minutes
  • @todd1606
It's simple. Florida played their style of game. Score first and clamp down on D!!!!!!!!!

They say "we" when discussing what the Oilers need to do. Can't start the bias
  • @MrShield78
The Cats win the cup, however all the media talk about is McDavid, and the Oilers. That Old Fart needs a pair of socks also

Skinner let in that soft sharp angled goal. Edmonton's D-men were lost in space on that play. Backing up nearly to their own goal line. Edmonton's coach kept mindlessly playing Draisaitl and McDavid together when that clearly wasn't working. Florida did the right thing. They finished every check and they crashed the boards. Made it an ugly game. That's their strength and it's Edmonton's weakness.
  • What changed? Panthers just needed it much more than Oilers in game 7. The shame of losing to Edmonton after all was just unimaginable.

amazing series, loved every minute of it. Florida was just a better team.

Skinner on the Olympic Team. Jesus H. Christ. Craig needs to put the bong down.

Once again , no talk of Bouchard's brutal mistakes. Cost the team the first goal, and Verhaege goes through him in 2nd like he was sleeping which nearly cost another....absolutely sickening that there is any criticism of Stuart Skinner tonight from Pounder. Clueless.
  • Love how they talk about the team that didn’t win for 90% of the video 🙄
  • @RiskyCapital
Panthers won because they are a Team, not individuals
  • McDavid was absolutely invisible in Game #6 and Game #7 -> ZERO points! That is (up to this point) the difference between a player like Messier or Gretzky and McDavid. They deliver championships and perform when the team needs them most and McDavid has not.

Skinner gets caught WAY out of position far too often. Look at a compilation of the playoff goals he gave up....he's flailing around a wide open net for lots of them.
  • I have been a Panthers fan for 7 games! My job is done. I’m celebrating the Oilers loss 😂
