I was curious to see what animation apps where out there that might replace Adobe Animate in my animation workflow. To make things more interesting I decided to only look at free apps and to my surprise there is some pretty good stuff out there. Here is my list of free animation apps that have a lot to offer like frame by frame animation, tweening, easing in and out even custom drawing brushes.
- OpenToonz
- Animation paper
- Synfig Studio
- Krita
- Pencil 2d

"I'm not a fool, I don't pay for cats" That phrase made me hit the like button. Thanks for your list.

as a regular Krita user, I haven't tried the animation feature but I'm going to try it because if I'm going to be able to animate with the same program I use for drawing regularly, I will be very happy
-
"AND IT'S DEVELOPED BY ONE GUY WHO'S NAME I AM ABOUT TO MISPRONOUNCE" You said that way too confident, LMAO

I’m surprised Flipaclip wasn’t listed here.

Thanks Brad, my daughter will be delighted as I was watching this video. I was looking for some software to do 2D simple animation for my tiny business.
-
Thank you. I was looking for something good and simple to get my 12 year old started on the love for animation.

This video is so helpful! I just got my first drawing tablet so I can finally move on from Flipaclip and I was a little daunted by trying to find the right programs. Most of the big animators and artists I tend to see use Paint Tool Sai or Photoshop and Toonboom or Adobe Animate, but I'm only animating as a hobby, I'm not getting money from it so I can't really afford those. This video just lays everything out for you and shows how each of these apps compare to Adobe. Honestly I was a little shocked by how much they can do. Thanks for making this so much easier for us beginning animators 😊

I use Krita. The large variety of brushes makes it really simple to create textures for you backgrounds, like if you want to add grass, clouds, water lines, a frickin mountain, etc, there's a brush for that. It works good for short animations, too.

"I'm not a fool i dont pay for cats" same I rescue them from the streets now I have 11 cats

Thank you for sharing your workflow and how these free animating apps compare against it. Very well done.
