What Really Happened When US Military Encountered a Giant in Afghanistan

Published 2024-06-10
In 2016, the internet was abuzz with interviews from U.S. military personnel detailing their encounter with a 13-foot-tall giant in the wilderness of Afghanistan. According to one military contractor, in 2002, the U.S. Special Forces encountered and killed a giant after suffering one casualty to the cryptid’s spear.

The story went around the world and back again, with theories bolstered by a mixture of fiction and facts. The official government response consisted of one statement claiming that they have no records of such an event or any giant men being slain by their forces in Afghanistan or anywhere else.

Yes, a trained US soldier saw a giant and then RUSHED IN instead of just firing his weapon. Seems credible.

Had an elderly afghani coworker, I had asked him about this and according to him they would find giants bones out there when he was a kid.
  • A few things, I’m 90% sure that the special forces team involved where Green Berets, not seals According to the story, the troops involved didn’t call in T.I.C which means troops in contact any time before they vanished which is highly irregular. And most importantly, this video leaves out MANY important details in favor of irrelevant and unnecessary ones

The giant attacked cos he thought the troops were returning his wife to him. He had been at peace in that cave.

This story sounds more like Ulysses encounter with the giant cyclops in the Odyssey than David and Goliath.
  • I suppose the navy will be fighting Krakens next, and the Marines will be herding unicorns

SEALS are Navy, not Army, so Snopes wouldn’t have found anything in army records
  • @clap5
They were Green Berets not Navy SEALs.

It wasn't a giant, it was actually 6 elves in an overcoat.

Not saying the story has any merit but it's cute that the author of this piece 1. Trusts Snopes... 2. Doesn't seem to think the military or government could conceal something. Having been involved in a "non existing incident" in Germany I assure you, they can make an event, not have happened!

Long before the U.S. invaded the Middle East, Locals had been telling stories about Giants in the caves of the mountains of Kandahar and how they are aggressive towards anyone who trespassed near where they lived. Apparently, the locals would give them goats as gifts for them, and theres also a recent interview of a youngman who is from Kandahar that explains the story of how his relative would give them goats to keep them happy or something along those lines. This content creator clearly hasn't done broader research on the topic and compares the story to the story of David and Goliath where he immediately labels that story as a "myth" when there has been multiple archaeological evidence of King David's history along with Goliath and where he came from along with other brothers he had. Also, not to mention the bible actually described the battle area that is known as "The Valley Of Allah," to a T and you can see it to this day.

Did the government at least give Lt Geralt his reward for slaying the Giant?
