It's a bird. It's a plane. It's a guy putting on boots!

DC shared the first image of David Corenswet in his new Superman costume and it is...fine.

The color is bright, the torso is battle damaged, if you look at the chest you can see it, if you look at the legs you can see the actual blue
  • My ex was a costume designer for marvel and she explained why they all use that fabric. It’s like very technical but mostly comes down to “looks good on camera” “doesn’t suck to wear”
  • I think it is definitely bright. It's just filled with dirt and damage. The legs as you can see are pretty bright.

I think they put the lines and texture in modern costumes because otherwise they read as Walmart pajamas.

The fact that Superman is unhurriedly putting his red wellies on one by one while sitting in an armchair like a dad with a bad back, while Metropolis is being fried, is so peak Gunn.

SUPERMAN With a - Long ass cape? - Hair Curl? - RED TRUNKS? - Collar? - Looks homemade? Not big on the lines but everything else makes this suit 100% GREAT!!!
  • @CapLives
James Gunn has said this film is about Superman dealing with the balance of his Kryptonian and Earth heritage. I feel the suit is his "Kryptonian" suit. But by the end of the film, he'll get something closer to the edit as he realizes he's both Human and Kryptonian. Keeps the colors, but softens out the suit to match humanity. Changing the S. I think this suit is OK, it doesn't feel iconic, though.

It's amazing how much people are inferring simply from costume design. I guess people don't have much else to talk about at the moment.
  • @krisr4285
Honestly, I think we just need to see it in daylight without the battle damage. That honestly should have been the reveal rather than this
  • @magicoA
I was honestly expecting the line “Not to belabor the Snyder thing” to be followed by “not unlike my podcast,’belaboring the Snyder thing’ ”
  • My guess is that this suit is a Kryptonian military uniform. The colar, the way the cape atatches, the material of the suit, and the wrinkles at the shoulders make me think that this is the suit worn by the Kryptonian military. Similar to what the classic version of General Zod wore
  • @munohlow
I’m pretty sure this is going to represent the theme of “legacy” and how it feels like a burden. Then he’ll get a more classic look by the end when he decides what kind of hero he wants to be
  • @DecoyZ
I think the texture is really just about how I doubt like casual audiences could take anyone seriously if they looked like they were wearing pajamas, personally I would love very bright and solid colours but I can see how they wouldnt look on camera and casual audiences just wouldnt like em
  • I’ve seen theories that this will be sort of a reverse Kingdom Come story. It will be about rejecting the modern “realistic”/ less hopeful superhero trajectory and by the end, David will be wearing a much more classic looking suit

Well the cape attached to shoulder stands out because of the collar. So it's basically like new 52, forrnitee, and DACU Injustice movie.
  • @AA-ll9fg
looks like a what a space cop uniform would wear.
  • @kidcourage5777
The lines and collar are from the new 52. This suit is an amalgamation of different Superman suits.

I think you’re right that this isn’t gonna be the only Superman suit you see in this movie. I wouldn’t be shocked if this is deliberately made to resemble a more modern Superhero suit, and by the end of the movie you see him don a much more simple, iconic Superman design to parallel the rumored “reverse Kingdom Come” arc of the movie where it is very much about transitioning from that modern, edgier, militant age of heroes into a more classic, optimistic, and simple one
  • @funkysam1345
It does feel slightly over designed. Like it's taken the best from all versions of costumes
  • @JohnDowson100
Also one practical reason against the collar.. it's going to stick out from under Clark's shirt 😅. A low neckline costume is much easier to cover.
