The nyckelharpa is a bowed instrument, originally built and played in Sweden. Dating back to the seventeenth century, but it is still very common in traditional Swedish folk music

The sight of this instrument caused me to click on this video, and I was not disappointed ... how lovely a sound for this chaconne ... as a pianist who played violin for a little while, I would consider this as the perfect compromise!

Truly amazing, so glad that this piece is played even by nyckelharpa players. Truly difficult but this is perfect :)
  • The Chaconne works quite well on this instrument, especially when performed this well! Thanks for a special treat.

The ingenious nickelharpa, to me is like an instrument made for by or for pianist/keyboardist who didn't want to spend the years it takes to develop the perfect intonation necessary to sound good on the violin. What a great instrument. Always wanted one.
  • Exquisite. One might almost think that Bach had this instrument in mind when he composed this.
  • It's like you tried to 3D print a violin and an accordion at the same time.

Chaconne in D minor is arguably one of the most complex and hard to play of Bach's violin partitas - on the violin for which it is originally written, it is hard and virtuosic enough - and yet you, sir, play it on the nyckleharp with such great nuance and ability! It is a flawless interpretation from a musician of great ability!

In Swedish, nyckelharpa means "keyboard harp", or "harp with keys". I had never heard of such instruments. Something almost otherworldly. Bravo Swedes!
  • Bin beeindruckt, nein sehr beeindruckt! Grossartig die Chaconne mit dem diesem Insrrument und dem wunderbaren Musiker zu geniessen! Herzlichst Matthias Steiner (Violine/Musiker)

I had never heard this instrument, one that gives orchestral heft to the pith of a solo violin. This is one of the most impressive performaces that I have ever heard of the Chaconne, a moement that usually puts a violin to its limit. Add to this it seems effortless. Should I be called to the orchesta of angels (I'm 68 and I know the nath and biology all too well for my comfort) then this is the instrument that I want to play.
  • Même Bach n'osait pas ce lancer sûr cet instrument tellement c'est difficile merci monsieur pour le bonheur de vous entendre et de vous voir jouer avec virtuosité.
  • Bravo from Japan. You notified me of the existence of this amazing and very traditional-looking musical instrument. I have never seen it before except for on this YouTube site. Actually, is it a long-history instrument and rarely or frequently played in this modern age in Europe? It seems to me that you can also play the violin and a keyboard instrument. Is it right? Anyway, I am sincerely thankful to you for giving me this wonderful opportunity where I could enjoy my favorite Chaconne.
  • MERCI POUR CE MOMENT DE BONHEUR SUSPENDU...LA TOUT EST ORDRE ET BEAUTE,CALME ET VOLUPTE...

Wonderful articulation, with so many different voices emerging. I feel Bach would have loved this instrument.
