Scientists from around the world are working on attempts to develop them for use as wonder weapons against famine. The lentil researchers make use of state-of-the-art biotechnology in order to make the undemanding pulses even more profitable and resistant.

During the pandemic when most people were emptying store shelves the only thing I picked was bags of lentils.
  • @ryantinney
This is why YouTube is so great, you can find one hour documentaries on interesting topics.
  • I once ate lentils and carrots for two weeks straight. I love lentils. They kept me going through hard times.

“Without lentils we are nothing” - says everything

We take so many things from granted. Looking at all the effort and work this people have to endure to harvest a cup of lentils make me tear up. Now every time I see a bag of lentils I will see it with a different eyes. It is the humble pearl of the earth indeed. We don’t appreciate God’s creation enough.

Now you know you’re really vegetarian/vegan/plant based when you sit down & WATCH 53 minutes of a lentil documentary. I’m a certified Lentil Lover.🎖

I have thanked God numerous times during these past few years for my Mother to have introduced them to our family by making a simple lentil soup. May God continue to bless the lenteja fields all over the world!
  • My first reaction as the video started was, "WOW, I didn't know there were that many varieties of lentils!" Then you went on to show us even more. I've never given much thought to lentils other than to vaguely wonder about what the plants are like and to tweak my lentil soup recipe. This video was very clear and easy to understand and I feel like I've learned a lot.

Thanks to this documentary I now know what lentil plants look like, rather than just bags of ‘em on the store shelves. ...And now have a deeper appreciation for such a humble legume / pulse.

I love lentils so much! Most protein of any whole plant food and most antioxidants of all the legumes!
  • I am not ashamed to say we went to bed hungry many nights and our day meals weren't much either. When we did have food to eat (beans, rice), is what we ate. When my mom was able to get a bag of flour she made bread. I see now beans were our protein. Right up to this day I cook beans and lentils. I thank God for my meals. I have learned to always have a garden if you can these days.🙏🏼

This is the place where lentils fans congregate 😅❤️❤️❤️❤️
  • I love lentils. My grandma always made delicious lentil and vegetable soup every Lent season. As a child I thought lentils were the official food for the Lent season.

I've been eating lentils nearly every day for the last couple of weeks. I started sprouting lentils and I've been putting the sprouts in almost every meal. I add them to salads, soups and stews, and I put them on my sandwiches instead of lettuce. They take only a couple of minutes to cook after they've sprouted and apparently they are much better for you once they've sprouted. The sprouting gets rid of a lot of the anti-nutrients, such as phytic acid. I've been sprouting mung beans and mustard seeds as well. I've now got lentils, other pulses and seeds sprouting continuously now, so that I don't run out. I love them. I'm not a vegetarian or vegan though. I still eat meat, but not a huge amount. I remember my mother telling me over fifty years ago that beans on toast (a common cheap meal here in the UK) was highly nutritious because the protein in the beans worked with the bread to give you a perfect meal. It turns out she was right, according to this documentary. I felt very uncomfortable about seeing the endless fields of 'clean field' lentils in Canada. They use Roundup from Monsanto (now Bayer, I think), to kill everything else. That is horrific. It makes farmers reliant on the chemical industry for seeds. Once they are in, they can't get out. And it means that we are being sold products that probably contain traces of poison. I agreed with the Indian lady. It is much better to develop seeds naturally and to plant a variety of seeds so that if one fails, others will succeed. Note: most sprouts are not edible raw. Lentils are okay. Kidney beans especially, should be boiled hard for at least ten minutes.

Eating a bowl of lentils rn and watching a documentary about lentils.
  • @GizmoFromPizmo
"How can a poison sprayed field be called a clean field? This double-speak must end." WELL SAID!!!!
  • Love my soup with a combination of many lentils, green, brown, yellow and orange, mix water with tomato for base and add carrots, onions, peppers red and green for taste. Usually sautee onion, garlic and peppers with cilantro on olive oil as my frist step. Later add water, tomatote, potatoes, carrots etc. Anything you love it works even sweet potatoes and pumpkin. With a good amount of your favorite spices like mint, basil, rosemary, etc. I eat this soup over and over again and love it everytime.

I love documentaries like this. Some years ago I made the decision to eat more plant based meals and reduce my meat consumption due to ethical reasons. I only knew tofu, salad, and beans. Then I discovered veggie cuisines from around the world with the most notable being Indian cuisine. It opened the door to a wonderful world of delicious food that leaves my body feeling lighter and "cleaner" than it would if I ate a similar quantity of meat based meals. Lentils are a huge part of why I've been able to gain and retain muscle mass from my active lifestyle.

We loveee eating lentils in South Sudan, so I'm glad they started the documentary in our region East Africa with our neighbouring country Ethiopia. One of my favourite dishes is our famous Lentil dish called Addis and its sooo easy to cook. They eat a lot of lentils in India/Pakistan too. Its incredibly healthy!
