Does anyone else feel self-conscious when reading a book with a bad cover in public? Or is that just me?

How to make a bookworm cringe in four words: Movie Adaptation Book Covers.

Honestly anything with book models are a No for me.

I feel like a book cover automatically gets 50% worse when there's a person on it
  • @mitsusway
the cover for the second book looks like one of a wattpad fanfic
  • Does anyone else hate when there are photos on the cover? Like I want to imagine a character from scratch I don't want my experience ruined by bland white stock photo teenagers. It legitimately ruins my experience to the point of not wanting to read.
  • I hate it when they try to make book covers look unnecessarily sexy. Like, if there is a romance novel with lots of sex in it, it makes sense to have half naked people on the cover. But otherwise, it looks like a cheap sales move.

Usually faces on covers aren't my thing but in Scott Westerfeld's Uglies series I don't mind it.

basically any book cover that has an actual photo of a person on it, especially when you can see their face is awful.

The original Shatter Me cover was soooooo bad lolololol

I love this series but the Mortal Instruments covers the original ones are so cheesy. Like City Of Bones with half naked Jace looking like a weird erotic novel like...I mean really I love the books themselves but no to those covers. I love the changes though the new ones are really pretty

I picked up this highly reviewed book from the library to find that it had a horribly cheesy romance novel cover. I actually redrew a cover of my own and taped it to the front while it was in my possession. I left my cover on when I returned to see if the library would keep it on. To my surprise, I checked up on it a few weeks later to see my cover still there with a note that said "thank you for fixing that terrible atrocity". I kinda want to do that again :)

Anytime I see a real person on the cover of a fiction book I'm just like WHYY?!? WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO DO THIS?!?! But I also wonder if in five years we'll look back on all the trendy ~minimalist~ covers you see today and go, "oh GOD we were so PRETENTIOUS."

the cover for Anna and the French Kiss (and the title too tbh) makes it seem like a short middle grade romance 😅😅
  • @Taleofthegreat
I tend to really really hate versions of books that have movie adapted covers. It's getting better lately with Mrs. Peregrine and etc, but when I saw the Narnia redesigned covers I really really didn't like Aslan's CGI'd face on the cover :(
  • I feel like the girl on the cover of the Vampire academy looks like Angelina Jolie.... is it just me? lol I honestly don't like when I see the model's face when there is a person on the cover of a book. Or I hate when the model on he cover just doesn't even look like how the character is described in the books... I mean did they even read the book?!! Lol Great video!! ❤️Nicole

Old Shatter Me and Mortal Instruments covers were pretty dreadful too

This isn't a YA book, but I think it's so hilarious in title and cover. The full title on Amazon is Someone to Cuttle (Gay Cuttlefish Shapeshifter Erotica). Hahahahaha 😂😂 And the cover is just a shirtless dude and a cuttlefish. Like, if you ever want to be entertained for hours just browse through shapeshifter erotica titles on Amazon. Because the covers are always ridiculous and the titles are full of puns. My friends and I have killed so much time doing this.

I think the Anna and the French Kiss cover is extraordinarily accurate. Worst novel I've ever read.
