  • As a young adult, I would always get up on Saturday mornings, pour myself a bowl of cereal, and sit down for Powerblock TV. Two hours of mechanics going ham. That's why I adore this channel. It brings back the same feeling that I had as a young adult watching that on Saturday morning. Thanks for giving me that blast of nostalgia, Throtl. Very much appreciate it! \m/

Jedi engine master Quin should get the opportunity to rebuild the S55.

The throttle body has a water jacket for cold climates. Make sure to check those oil squirters, especially on #6 which could be the cause of starvation.

Just had a idea: throw this engine in a E46 M3 with the DCT.......

Quinn's love for all things BMW is infectious (minus the DTM squatted suspension😉). Seeing him building an S55 and making a little drift missile with it would be awesome content for the channel and a chance for the crew to test their fabrication skills on new kind of project
  • A 2002 restomod with this motor in it would be special guys. Converted to one large single turbo. Or a CSL Batmobile would be an awesome build. I’m not a BMW fan, but I’d love to see this come to fruition. Thanks Throtl, always fun and educational to watch. Tricky from England.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I think the pitting on the internal parts came from sitting for a few months. The engine failed in hands of the previous owner and the repair bill being for probably, replacing the engine long block, the owner left the car sitting until he figured something out. That exhaust valve stayed open when the engine shut off and the moisture creep from there to the internals. Then he just gave it as trade in, hoping for the dealer to not find out about the problem. Then you bought it.
  • @Sublooge
Quinn did a great job explaining his thought process while taking the engine apart and diagnosing it! I’m excited to watch you guys build this engine and see what you put it in
  • @Mark-th1gn
nice job taking it apart and getting to the conclusion boyz! Such a shame it was oil starved, now it had to come out and be disassembled etc, just because someone did not check oil lvl enough.

A good condition S55 with just studs is capable of pretty decent HP. I think since the B58 and S58 have come out, the S55 has taken a back seat in most people's minds because of how easy they make power. With rods and pistons, this S55 is going to be a monster. I'm excited to see what they put this in.

Quinn , I really appreciate the way your explain the parts. I’m novice with car knowledge . You explain it in an easily accessible way .
  • Shoutout from Cape Town 🇿🇦, awesome content👌🏻 As a BMW owner it’s amazing to see you guys work in a straight 6🤝🏻
  • @jacobboyd927

Such a cool episode! Just when I thought that Quinn couldn't impress me more than I am already, he does this! What a guy! Kudos, man!!!
  • Did I spy a widebody S15 in the background? New build? Have hopes! Glad you figured out what was wrong with the S55 though. Good to know for those who have that engine!
  • @LardieBros
Mike essa (with DDE) had oil starvation on similar designed block for the f30 340 motor on cylinder 6. It seems to be a common issue with high revving use, but he did make a fix for it after new cams
  • @organicod2438
I wonder if you could use a strong magent to hold the oil catch pan to the engine stand while you drain it. Yeah, Magnets, baby!
  • To me, it seems most likely that it was low on oil or had old oil that wasn't lubricating properly that caused the lifter to wear first and the worn out lifter caused the cam to wear unevenly. From my experience, it's usually the lifters that fail first
  • @Dr_Wrenchh
I still think it is a very slightly bent valve stem on cyl 6. That caused the valve guide to wear and also wore out the valve stem seal letting oil in there causing that weird misfire. Very likely happened when the stock intercooler failed and it ate coolant. I’d check all the valves and guides when you guys rebuild that thing🍺 Let us know that car drove me and Mike crazy😂
