This week I am taking you along on my side quests as an artist. This is what a week in the life of a part time artist can look like. Every week is different! We will also be making a ski themed surreal collage, framing some stickers to complete a gallery wall, paint for an afternoon, and much more!
This week was an exciting time after my journey to visit family in England.

Great, fun video! From collage to vintage to kitty to beautiful weather and more! I love a good ephemera haul! Restraint is always the challenge (and space) for me! How exciting about the the mentorship! Enjoy and hope it meets your needs! ❤ Kathleen

Those Oxford Compact Dictionaries are quite the collectors item for bibliophiles! My boyfriend is an English professor and absolutely freaked when he relieved some secondhand ones for Christmas last year. They typically come in a box with a magnifying glass so you can actually read the text. Another wonderfully inspiring video - just seeing some of the images you have collected has sparked the urge to create in me :)

Just a quick tip on the guillotine cutter especially when cutting thin magazine paper: gently put a bit of pressure toward the board while pressing down to make the cut. Clarification: press to your left and down at the same time. It makes the contact with the blade and metal edge tight so you get a nice clean and straight cut. I hope this makes sense.
  • Oooh the books, the books... Love your kits. I was so jealous of the abandoned house, I just love finding stuff people have gotten rid of and I have far too much paper all over the house. I would have had to take piles of them. Where there are nice things on the back of pages I scan them for later. I like to print them on tissue, watercolour paper. Whatever matches what I'm working on. Enjoyed your video and a new subscriber.

you can freeze the books (inside bags) if you are worried about bugs
  • Sorry to hear about the Residency being cancelled, but I think creating your own one would be a great idea. That first colage was meant to be for sure, as soon as you cut out the woman's hand I could see the finished piece straight away,it would make a great print as well. The abadoned house was a real treasure trove,a rare oppertunity to gather new materials to use in your amazing collages and it looks like a great place to stage an immersive art event/happening/exhibition. The stickers were perfect for the two miniature frames as well for your gallery wall. Hope you are felling better as well, can empathise with the migraine,no fun for sure, but hope you are okay now. I love the humor and/or subtle messages in your pieces. I like the idea of doing an art residency at home. I think that could be fun and inspiring! Sweet mini-framed stickers. I enjoy mini-collages and find myself doing those often (roughly post card size) because they are less daunting and seem to come together quicker for me. So much stuff left at that abandoned house! So sad that people left so much of their life behind and wonder what the story is... but glad you are giving new life to some interesting finds.

Loved this video Leah. Lots of interesting things to see. I can't wait for my collage papers to arrive. I'm so excited to see what I get! Enjoy your weekend x Nell.
