I cannot imagine how proud your parents are of you JPS, so sensitive, so caring and so genuinely interested in the world outside your own. Bless you.

The singer is Susan Bullock. Take a look at her singing Rule Britannia at the Last Night of the Time Proms 2011.

In the Original production of The Sound of Music in London it had Constance Shacklock in the role of the Mother Superior. When her husband died she never hit that high note at the end of the song ever again. I should know, I was one of those Von Trapp kids in the London production.

So lovely to find an 18 year old with as much curiousity and lust for knowledge as you ! You are also introducing some of we Brits. to things we may not always appreciate as we should If you are keen on good music, may I suggest that you have a look at Welsh Male Voice Choirs. You will love them. Keep the videos coming ... please !

Joel! Have you never seen The Sound Of Music? Classic musical film from 1965 with Julie Andrews - it's where this song came from. An amazing amazing movie with soooo many good songs, superb acting and an unforgettable story. Give it a try when you have 3 hours to spare :P
  • You have such a beautiful soul Joel, I really hope you get to come over to the UK one day and experience some of the things you are reacting to. From the little things from making a cup of tea, beans on toast and Digestive Biscuits to experiencing traditions, culture and music be this the latest or of the more classical kind. Wishing you the best for 2022!

That singer reaching that high note is almost as impressive as a cute handsome young American man reaching the very low notes with his deep voice :) Anyway, now you need to watch the whole of the film "Sound of Music" (1965) which is a classic traditional favourite film. It is compulsory for everybody in the UK to watch "The Sound of Music" at least once a year, every year at Christmas time, otherwise the universe will explode.
  • The Promenade concerts are in the Albert Hall in London every summer culminating in the Last Night which is a special occasion. It is the biggest classical concert in the world.

This gave me goosebumps! Whilst this isn't a genre I would normally listen to, no one should underestimate the sheer talent of those musicians and singers! OMG that was amazing! āš˜šŸ’žšŸ‘šŸ’™ love from šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§

Hi, the singer in the blue dress is Susan Margaret BullockĀ CBEĀ (born 9 December 1958 inĀ Cheshire) a BritishĀ soprano. She has performed dramatic soprano parts at major opera houses, and also sung in concert and recital.
  • I can see your a young man with good taste in music. Well done lovely. x
  • It is so great that you see to love the UK so much. I think we are lucky to live here too, I was watching a programme about the most intricate lifesaving operations that take place here. Some are over two days and involve huge amounts of surgeons and nurses, followed by weeks in intensive care, all on our wonderful NHS. I have visited the USA several times and enjoyed it, but always pleased I was born British. Hope you get over here very soon

When you hear the human voice, aloud as one, singing beautiful lyrics, accompanied by a majestic orchestra, you begin to understand that heaven, truly is a place on Earth.
  • @Ninjalette666
its actually soprano Susan Bullok, she is credited as the singer in the description of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' last night at the proms 2011 version.

The Proms are a general Summer Music Festival and the Last Night is always dominated by a great soloist with huge orchestral accompaniment. The second half of the programme is the patriotic anthems, usually 'Jerusalem', 'Rule Britannia', 'Land of Hope and Glory', 'Songs of the Fleet', 'Pomp and Circumstance Marches' etc.

I just love that a young lad is so taken by the Proms. So genuinely affected by them and so appreciative of them. That's an Oscar winning song from The Sound of Music. Love that film! It used to come on every Christmas (that and Star Wars). Oh, those were the days! Take care, wee man!
  • This song was sung in the hit musical film sound of music. Its based on vontrap family who are a real family but some of the film is not all really they did put there own story parts in it. Julie Andrews played a nun to be a nanny to the vontrap children. As there mother had passed away . You should watch it . The singing is fabulous by Julie Andrews.
