If you like this content and are able, please consider supporting me on Patreon at www.patreon.com/PaulHofreiter - support will mean more videos, eventually being able to provide music, fingerings etc. for all of you and other time-intensive things that I cannot offer while doing this for free. I will, of course, still continue to make these videos as a public service but support would help me be able to help you more. Also, if you are interested in online lessons, either by Skype/Facetime or through correspondence (i.e. sending videos back and forth weekly with assignments and direction), please contact me at [email protected]. Thank you!

This video is assuming that you know some voicings for your 7th chords already. Even if you only know one chord form this will help you get away from chord charts when trying to build chords with notes other than the root, 3, 5 and 7. Also with the voicings you already know you should know which scale degrees/chord tones are on each string. If you don’t, that info is out there and can be found with a quick google but if you are having problems with that part just let me know.

Thanks again Paul for another extremely helpful video. I appreciate your focus on practicality in all of your lessons. I've got a lot of studying and practicing to do, you've posted quite a lot recently!
  • Thank you, very good advice. Never really thought about it like this, but it's very helpful for my playing !

Excellent info. You do a great job of explaining in your vids. Clear, concise without all the blather and idiocy of so many others morons on Youtube. Well done. Thanks a lot. There are many layers to this which I can return to and re-watch.
  • Hi Paul. Thank you for making great content. I like a point you made in another video where you combine interval training with chord construction. That was a breakthrough key take away for me.
  • Solid stuff and great advice. After understanding chord construction, I very rarely refer to chord charts. The tangential aspects of this video were very dense. I'm going to watch it a few more times. Thanks for sharing this.
