I have definitely enjoyed this year's Olympic Games...when I've been able to watch them. But if we can have dressage and race walking, I think there are a number of games that would be inexpensive and simple to include that would increase interest and appeal both in younger Americans, and also among people all across the world.

This video is like 10% tongue in cheek, but for the most part, I actually stand by these suggestions. Maybe not in 2020, maybe not in 2024, but someday.

  • You forgot about a sport your beloved brother witnessed back in Berlin: Chess-Boxing. 3 Minutes of chess, 3 Minutes of Boxing. Winning by K.O. or checkmate. Literally Nerdfighting
  • @deadasfak
Tug of war is actually very dangerous because the rope can snap, and it snaps with a deadly force
  • I saw a lot of Sepak Takraw being played while I was passing through the slums of Bangkok. It's crazy awesome...
  • @rlaurenti
You know what sport should be an Olympic sport? Two words. Medieval. Jousting.
  • Mounted archery ill be won by mongolia every year if it were in the olympics
  • @Tigerous
Hide n Seek should be in the olympics.
  • See, in the UK, the Olympics is a grade 1 sporting event. This means that by law, it must be shown on freeview and can not be pay to watch
  • Ultimate Frisbee, it would become the second sport where men and women compete on an even playing field (the other being equestrian) and you basically need a field or a beach, and a frisbee. It's already got IOC recognition and is really entertaining to watch, plus with the whole being self refereed and promoting Spirit of the Game, it's really alligned with the olympic values
  • OK, so what did I miss...what do you think should be in my new massively parallel Olympics and why?
  • @JessSpade
I was so happy when you said cheerleading. I've done competitive cheerleading for 13 years and it's so fun to do and watch! They're actually pushing to make it an olympic sport for 2020.
  • @FlyKiwi
Mate, quidditch. It's gender inclusive and open to players of all abilities/sporting backgrounds. It also has the greatest community of any sport I've come across. I'm sure someone can enlighten me but I don't currently know of any mixed gender sports in the Olympics, everything is either mens or womens. Quidditch doesn't draw the line at binary, it is inclusive of ALL genders and I think it's time we had that sort of representation on the world stage.
  • This is such a great video Hank!!! I hadn't heard of so many of these sports but now I want all of them in the Olympics next time round. Your enthusiasm in this video is also just so cheering :)

Kite fighting kills people. After a kite is cut free it drifts away uncontrolled. Occasionally, one of these kites, with supper strong, glass coated string still attached cuts into someones neck and kills them. The sport is banned or heavily regulated in many countries for this reason.
  • yes! Cheerleading! I don't understand why people still don't consider it a sport when team synchronized swimming is LITERALLY Cheerleading in the water!
  • please don't advertise kite fighting, it actually kills a lot of people, the string becomes fatal, specially for people riding bikes or motorcycles
