46 years ago, Rohidas Desai took over an existing taverna off Eduarte Pacheco street in Panjim to set up his seafood restaurant. Fastidious about the quality of seafood, he would visit the market each day to scour for the best marine produce to be cooked to his wife, Gokula Desai’s recipes. It is no surprise then that this committed approach had earned for Ritz legions of ardent patrons who now pack the group's six restaurants for lunch and dinner. I caught up with Daad (as he is known to everyone in Goa) Desai in a meeting that was ordained by destiny over a seafood lunch at their very first eatery, Café Ritz. Hope you enjoy this episode; take care, stay safe and strong. Happy eating!

Seafood Thali
Rs 200 (usd 2.6) The thali is priced at Rs. 300 (usd 3.9) in the other Ritz Classic restaurants, however the quantity and variety on the thaali too may be a bit more.

Seeing Daas uncle on this video reminded me of my dad. So proud of Daas Uncle calling him as my second dad. Been our family friend since forever now! My dad and he were best friends for 47 years, until my dad passed away last month. I saw my dad in Daad in this video.
  • Goa is blessed with the tastiest seafood ❤️ Proud to be a Goan 😊 🥰 Desai bhau doesn't look like he's 82 😀

Awesome. I had my first thali there 32 yrs back n still love it. Best part when u all came to shoot this episode I was there for my favourite thali.its really a epic place we can forget.👍❤️
  • I first ate there in 1996. Amazing seafood thali….the lunch thali is so popular in Pangjim, you have to wait an hour before you get a seat…seafood thali used to cost Rs180….a steal in my book 👌👌👌✌🏾

I visited this restaurant in 2005 along with my parents..When I asked the waiter about the menu, he brought a thali full of fresh fish...He said sir you choose the fish and we will prepare..It was a first time experience for me..This place is an absolute legend ..
  • @madhura51
I just love it...when you speak Marathi! 🙂it elaborates the taste of the food! :)
  • @ravip1849
Suddenly he started speking Marathi . Kripal has lot of powers . Wherever he lands he start speaking native language . Marathi is the elder sister of Konkani .
  • You are multiple languages master , who can enjoy the food with sweet demo. Thanks. You are India.
  • I like the vigour and zest of daad when he is discussing food. Especially seafood. The cuisine seems of typical goan standards, veering closer to saraswat cuisine. I may have eaten here ages ago, because the locality seems very familiar. In today's goa, it's a struggle to find an honest eating place that offers good meals at a decent price. May daad's tribe grow and once again regain goa's reputation for good food and hospitality. Incidentally, your marathi is quite fluent Kripalji.
  • Been atleast 500 plus times to Ritz. With my dad, uncle, friends since childhood... authentic goan fish thali... M lucky to be one of the hungry customer for sea food at Ritz. Thank you Desai Saheb and his entire team 🙏🏼
  • Awesome episode👌 Love kripals comand of over multiple languages. He is local to many states. That makes his videos enjoyable. Hope you reach 1 Million hearts soon🥳
  • @rohitrane1900
Desai sir's menu seems to reflect his Kshatriya Maratha/Konkan Maratha roots and cuisine from the Nova Conquistas( Goa ) and adjacent Karwar( Karnataka ) region. Just mentioning this here because Kripal sir asked him if it's Saraswat cuisine or Desai cuisine?
  • @DrB9

  • @yogfull
Long live the simple but great man & Ritz! Amazing food..makes me feel like packing my bags and being there right away. Loved the konkani marathi conversation 👌 Kripal sir you should make a proper marathi vlog, impressed with your hang of Marathi.
  • @sachinmoghe9162
Must say you speak excellent marathi. Fish thali was tempting... Didn't know there were multiple Ritz's in panjim - all of them owned by one family.. Nice video...👏👏
