The Triplets of Belleville. What a wonderful way to celebrate Mother's Day with a movie starring a grandmother traveling to a big city to save her grandson

A grandma saving her grandson from the Mafia? Sounds like something my grandma would do.

Belleville and The Illusionist is some of my favorites! I remember being introduced to Belleville when I was in elementary school. Animation really is cinema!🎭🎨

I gotta say, this movie is almost something that Richard Williams tried to improve with The Thief and the Cobbler.

As a french, I'm very pleased you're talking about this very unique movie !

I remember seeing the couch gag that Chomet made for the Simpsons, and wow he’s such a talented animator. I better check the Triplets of Belleville at some point, it’s a great example of a masterpiece that has a story that doesn’t need to be too deep. It’s time for the Powerpuff girls movie for next month!
  • I hope AniMat can review The Breadwinner (2017) one day. I actually put that movie on my email of requests for him in 2019 and with The Glassworker coming out, it might be a perfect time for The Breadwinner to get reviewed.

    Going from Belleville to Townsville.

I saw this when I was, looking back a bit too young at, three or four years old and being enamoured with it. I think the fact most of it was without dialogue helped young me connect with it a lot. And in retrospect, this along with Wall-E cemented my love of stories told through visuals and character acting alone. Also as a kid I was super frustrated I could never find the 1920s style song Belleville Rendez-Vous that plays in the intro of the film on iTunes or anywhere else. The M version is still a bop though.

I think Animat’s gonna do the Powerpuff Girls Movie next.

I still have the film on DVD. I honestly believe it is criminally underrated along with some of the other films released by Sony Pictures Classic (the distributor), such as Tokyo Godfathers.

The next review will have Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice.
  • Hoping I can find this movie for a movie night someday. Also, Animat, I need to say that you are a better, and more honest, critic than Mr. Enter will ever be.

How have I not heard about this movie before? I have to watch this sometime.
  • The Triplets Of Belleville is one of those animated films that I've always been curious about, but just never got around to watching. After this review though, I'll definitely try to find a way to watch it! And also, WOO-HOO!!! THE POWERPUFF GIRLS MOVIE IS THE NEXT CLASSIC REVIEW!!! 🥳 UPDATE: Just finished the film after renting it on Amazon and I liked it! I would give it an 8/10! Thanks for the recommendation, AniMat!🧡💙 (And thanks for getting Belleville Rendezvous stuck in my head...🎶)

Yes folks, the Powerpuff Girls movie is next! (and this movie takes place before the show since many of us all known how Bruce Wayne became Batman and how Peter Parker become Spider-man since many people read comic books for generations!)
