  • Fun fact: Gunnery Sergeant Griego has a post out there on the internet where he basically complains at how he's depicted in this show and how he's actually such a hero. Just from reading it you can tell this was a perfect depiction, to the point that I literally heard it in the actor's voice.
  • I wasn't recon, just a regular grunt, but this mini series %100 nails what life is like in the infantry, especially while on deployment. The blatant stupidity, higher-ups hyper focused on trivial shit, the boredom. It was just awesome to see something on the screen that reflects the reality of being deployed vs the usual bs that makes it look like we're in contact from the day we show up until we leave. Those dudes absolutely nailed their roles. It was like watching a legit documentary vs a major production.
  • I once had to pull our Lt aside to have a heated discussion, after one of our patrols in Afghanistan. One of my Marines lost his PEQ-15 during an engagement. Straight loosened up & fell off his M4. The young officer wanted me to write him up, as I was his platoon commander. (I was a SSgt filling that billet). I wasn’t having it. Not with all the bullshit my guys were dealing with on patrols. Intense back & forth ensued & the Lt threatened me with a “Non-punitive Letter of Caution” if I didn’t comply. Well, I didn’t comply & got MY write up, but never backed down when it came to defending my guys, if they weren’t in the wrong. Leaders that stand up to bad leadership, are worth their weight in gold. Never be afraid to take a reaming for your guys, when they put so much on the line for the team.

Nothing better than a well executed handshake or a high-five.

Generation kill to me was about as close as you can get of all the dumb shit that goes down from top brass to the bottom while being down range.

One of the greatest shows HBO ever made. Susanna White was a brilliant director for this, told this deeply personal, intimate and real story with all of these guys that were there incredibly objectively, almost like documentary footage. Super important story to tell with a lot to say about PTSD and the nature of professional military life. I’m glad they were all able to speak their parts about their life experience, be it actually as themselves or through the actors they worked with and in a way that was so realistic. Sad this show isn’t talked about as much, it should be discussed as much and known as the realistic application of all the stuff Kubrick talked about in Full Metal Jacket
  • I watched this year's ago and have rewatched it quite a bit. Brad Culbert is a really cool dude. He has a shooting range on his property which is fantastic. The DCU & M81 combo still hits my feels.

I was in the Marines for 8 years during this time period and when asked what movie/show best represents the Marine Corps I served in I tell them Generation Kill and its not even close. This show perfectly shows the mentality of the officer/snco ranks of the corps and shows why I got out after 1 re-enlistment. I was 17 in bootcamp and was one motivated little boot that planned on doing 20 years but by the time I hit SGT and started spending more time in Staff Nco / Officer meetings ect, I quickly realized that most of what we were taught was BS. I dont regret my time but the military is not what people think it is.
  • Godfather is surprisingly, hilariously accurate to the MC way of thought, and somehow so effective. I feel like the MC may never truly change. I love Gen Kill cause it's like a TV show made in the light of Terminal Lance.
  • @Oakestates
Y'all should invite Jason Lilley of Savage Actual for Generation Kill breakdowns. He was there, part of that unit. They have him played by Kellan Lutz.
  • A bunch of these dudes tried out to play themselves. Only Rudy got his own role. A couple of other guys got cameos, as someone else. They now own the souls of the guys they played.. 😅

"He might have a touch of the Down." HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!! You guys had me laughing so hard, I done spilled my coffee all over my shirt, and it was worth it!!!
  • @vbboyd
I love it when you guys do movie reviews. Movie reviews I want to request of you guys. 1917, Saving Private Ryan, Apocalypse Now, Patton, Gettysburg, A bridge too far, Platoon, all really cool military history films and if I think of any more I will let you know. Sorry I missed you guys when you came to El Paso/Fort Bliss when you were here for the Bataan Death March memorial reenactment walk, but at least these requests might just give you some food for thought.

Having Kurt in a video is like winning the lottery. Or reaching the top of a mountain. Or witnessing the birth of a new baby.
  • Look at our boy, a year or two ago his mic was different every episode and now he's doing ads like a PRO! Love how you grew your business and keep helping us prepare for selection along the way, thank you homie 🙏🏽
  • Buck you should get with the guys from savage actual, Jason, specifically when watching the generation kill episodes. He was there for the invasion with 1st recon and was portrayed in the show - Jason Lilley
  • Fighting soldiers from the sky, fearless men who jumped and die, men who mean just what they say, they are men of the Green Berets.
  • I thought I saw somewhere the SGM of this unit actually got convicted for child molestation. Real class act.

My Dad told me of a story when he was a sergeant with the Mike Force in Vietnam. A unit was under fire in a village and my dad's unit was some distance away hearing what was going on. The fire was sporadic, not heavy. The officer told my dad to get the unit formed and head down the road immediately. My dad wanted to put out flankers to make sure they were not ambushed. There was some back and forth between them and the officer "relived" my dad and tried to get another sergeant to get the unit moving. That sergeant and the indigenous soldiers refused to move without flankers, so flankers were put out and they moved down the road.
