  • Generation Kill is "road trip" show masquerading as a show about war. Because of that it is one of my most favourite shows. I've watched it many times over.

I turned 18 right before 9/11 and went open contract to get in ASAP. They changed my orders in the middle of basic and sent me to language school to learn Chinese. Got to learn that and got the free college. Hats off to the real vets in the chat and to Kurt and Sean. I did my 4 years, got the college money, and bailed. People pay $60k to learn Chinese at UCLA and it's still not even close to DLI level when you finish those 84 weeks of language school. Military taught me how to get good at paperwork, Powerpoint, bureaucracy, egos, and politics. Everything a corporate slave needs. 10/10 would do it again.

The POG scene was funny to me and my buddies. Because we are POG’s. We were field wireman/comms. So we would be in the field but not in the front line. When other units gave us shit we cut their their comm line from their MWR hooches. No more calls to Susie back home. 😆 good times.

Generation Kill is probably the most accurate depiction of modern warfare there is. They play Recon Marines but these guys could be any random Infantry company in any branch of service. It's spot on. It's funny because I first watched this series as civilian long before I joined and was shocked by the language and other things. Then I did the job for real and completely understood. 😎 All you guys wanting to join and be high-speed make sure you pay close attention to what Buck and Kurt talk about at the 12:00 mark. It will save you a lot of heartache. Don't let a recruiter tell you anything different

Oh man, Generation Kill is amazing. Such a great show. Do the full series, it would be cool to see a breakdown of all of it
  • @bdubbs
Fruity Rudy is an absolute inspiration

"British fight for their homes, the Germans fight for glory and the Americans fight for souvenirs"-. Ernie Pyle
  • Man Generation Kill is my favorite show of all time. Realistic camaraderie, realistic combat, realistic depiction of war, etc. Please continue reviewing the rest of the episodes!

Nice! There is a youtube channel called Savage Actual, two former special forces who react to games and stuff. Jason from this channel is actualy one of the real guys from Generation Kill, after this he went to the Marine Raiders. He tried to play himself in the series but he was not an actor so he didnt get the part lol He also went to shot show you might have crossed him there. Just some fun facts for you guys

I felt Kurt's background so much. I joined as a medic, I went to fort benning for basic and was super pumped to be a "combat medic" being called "doc" by an infantry platoon. Until I graduated AIT and found myself in a medical company in a BCT being called POG by other medics.

the "leg over" in the sniper team happened because they spotter is trying to get as close to the common line of site with the M40. The terrain might dictate that you, the spotter can't offset back and the tube gets the priority FFP. so the spotter ends up on top of the shooter almost.

This a great book, and an excellent show. This show portrays exactly how Marines talk and act; Get Some Marines👊🏼👍🏼💪🏼🇺🇸

We did a training exercise in Romania in 2001. One evening we were given permission to go out drinking in Bucharest. We were told to behave because of "diplomatic sensitivities." Long story short, I woke up the next morning in the barracks to be told that half a dozen guys from our company were "in jail" for starting a mini-riot in a residential area. Apparently they'd paid some hookers for business and the ladies took off with the money without providing their services. One of the guys arrested was the company sergeant major! FFS!!
  • I remember these dudes in ‘03, when we were in Kuwait, waiting to push into Iraq. Force Recon were chill dudes. Always on their own program. Lol. This show really captures what we were like. Especially during that tour. Semper Fi, guys.
  • When it first aired, this show didn’t receive a good review from civilian. After joining the army and rewatching this show, I think the reason is because of its authenticity in portraying the military life. Civilians don’t understand or couldn’t believe this was how the military actually works, which is very different from other movies or news media portrayed.

You should react to the scene where the Captain asks for feed back and Doc finally answers up and tells him he's incompetent. I did 23 years in the Army and this show hits the nail on the head for all of the stuff that actually goes on most of the time.
  • @Pomskyy__
I actually love the fact that you guys talk about the whole POG thing, I enlisted at 17 wanting to go combat arms but my parents wouldn't sign the contract unless I did something else. So my dad who was a 42A convinced my recruiter to give me something other than Infantry. I ended up going into Finance. I enjoyed my deployment due to the fact that I got to go to Syria and Iraq but back in the states I absolutely hated it because no one else had the same mentality as me. I was constantly called out for it and it just got to the point that I gave up on my entire career in. My unit wouldn't let me go do anything like Air Assault and Airborne school. It really weighed on my mental until I did what I had to do to get out with an Honorable Discharge

"In war, if it's not yours don't touch it." That rule normally applies to us Brits too, but there's always one or two jokers who think they're different. After the Falkland War, some of our soldiers returned from the conflict with Argentine Colt 45's. One fella was caught with a set of his victims ears threaded through an army boot lace!! True story. Don't worry be happy.
  • Was never in the military. But I absolutely love what you guys are doing. Helping future warriors get selected for Special Forces. The shape the world is in now we are going to need them
