Discussing Louis Vuitton Canvas. Is It Really That Basic?!

I think you could call anything "basic" that gets popular...Chanel, Van Cleef, etc. I personally love the canvas and appreciate the prices, and it holds up amazingly

Dacob, please read this. I love my LV pieces. I just got the speedy 20 and it’s perfect. I’ve been collecting LV for over 25 years. I own a Chanel WOC and a 19, both of which are great quality. I’ve wanted a classic for a few years. I could go in there and offer them 3 times the price and they just won’t sell me a classic. It’s so frustrating. And I know they are lying to me. More importantly, thank you so, so much for your videos. I found you about 6 months ago. I have been on short term disability and need neck surgery. . You have absolutely saved me. The days are long and your videos have helped me pass the time. I sit outside on my patio every day with Dacob and coffee. You really are Super. I even became a tier one member recently. Thank you so much for what you do. You have no idea how much these videos affect people depending on their life situation. Well done, my friend.

I think people misinterpret “basic” with “staples” or “essentials”. I loveee “basic” items because they are needed! A black dress, a good pair of jeans, comfy sneakers, a good pair of leggings. I put LV in that category. Reliable & beautiful & functional

Love your positive messaging! In the brand hierarchy hermes, chanel, etc when people climb the luxury food chain, its like they get this reflex to look down on others, and most people start off with LV. There is way too much judgement on luxury youtube. Thank you for your positivity!

As an LV lover of over 30 years, would never say that the mono canvas or any LV canvas as basic. Classic and iconic, yes!

When I hear people call something “basic” to me what they mean is a combo of tacky, overpriced & too common. If you watch luxury content then yes LV is a part of many collections, but its because the items are often practical and timeless. IMO its not basic, but it is a core piece for many who are able to own luxury because it works. A lot of people desire BKN/KLY and its also a part of many collections. Yet many would not consider this basic. You could argue that the monogram makes LV very recognisable, but in the same token IMO most who like luxury can recognise a BKN/KLY/Classic Flap today….

I used an LV pochette as my every day make up kit for 20 years, 20 years! Finally the stitching started to break down, but the canvas was perfect. I contacted LV to see if they could fix it and they provided a new one for a small fee. LV is a workhorse, and as you said, when I use these pieces they actually make me happy, unlike a lot of other more expensive brands.

Yes! I agree. Just thinking about the origins of the brand and how it's made for travel, I have had my eyes opened to the fact that their coated canvas is truly a workhorse!! My two vintage Vuitton finds from the early 80s still look gorgeous and were extremely affordable. (each below 200 USD). These things were built to last, and that's what I think "luxury"should be, no matter what the marketing for luxury brands tells us all. Something that will last as long as you need it...not something you have to replace with another one! I've grown to love the material just for these reasons, instead of just looking at it and saying "oh, that tired ol' monogram...."

I love the approach of not "belittling" someone as a response to their bullying. It's something I've thought of but not able to put into words.

Now, at 30 I feel very happy and satisfied with my style. I wear exclusively black, aside from bags and scarfs, accessories etc. My standard style is a black bodycon dress ( different lengths and arm lengths, depending on season and weather) and a cardigan over Igor a coat, depending on season. Good quality pieces, that last years and nice shoes. I let my bag and accessories make my outfits special. I think my look is quite timeless. And so are the handbags, that I buy. And I think, they elevate my outfits. And they look always timeless. An Alma BB is a classic piece and I can wear it for years. That’s what I love, expanding my collection, instead of throwing three bags out a year and buying three new ones. I buy two , maybe three new bags a year and add them to my collection. After only four years of buying these types of bags, I have a very nice collection and I could Stoppsignal and would have everything that I need. That canvas is very durable. I know, LV wants to sell more leather bags etc. but to me, their canvas pieces are absolutely timeless elegance. I could have worn the same bag, fifty years ago , as I do now. I try, to buy basic things, that go well together and have a great aesthetic and quality. Of course, there are areas, where many people wear the LV logo bags, because they are fakes and that makes it seem, like everyone has these bags. In my area almost nobody wears them. Personally, I prefer Damier to the monogram but it also depends on the piece. I love my basic style and the ability, to quickly elevate it , just with a few accessories.

Basic = Classic, Timeless

Coach is a well made brand! I’m not talking about the outlet line. Although some outlet pieces are quite nice. This applies to MK as well. Vintage coach is still out there, and going strong. Tough, well tanned leather! These brands are not to be belittled.

I embrace my basic! I’m called it often because it’s neutral colors and classic silhouettes for me. But at 30 I know what I like and what I’m comfortable in plus I’m surrounded by people I love with bright trendy fabulous style and I can love and admire their fashion without having to adopt it as my own. I totally agree with you dacob!! in Spain basic has a totally different connotation , we say that something in basic when it is timeless , it may be simple but well executed something that can be used to wear With anything and look good , something that everyone should have because of its functionality and simplicity

Yes, so much junk being sold! It is so wasteful to just keep producing things that do not last…. I have basic clothes like shirts from 20 years ago that are better in quality than a shirt purchased last month… basic is beautiful… my daughter loves basic things… Love your advice on not falling into being judgmental and being more mature towards comments. It is easier said than done but we can all do this! Spread love and positivity 💕

I agree with you. I love my LV canvas pieces. They are my go to when I’m traveling. It’s a no brainer, I am not worried about them falling apart, they are serving their purposes for years with no issues. When you take the time to learn about the brand, how can you say it’s just basic?

Adding unto the positive glow of uniqlo quality , everyone we know buys fr uniqlo in my country for many reasons , Japan does it well and their collaboration w famous artists and designers makes it more fun ! Our kids and grandparents love them !

She's my partner, my confident, something I can absolutly relay on whatever happens, even on rainy days. Chanel 5 is basic , LV print is basic , a white shirt is basic, a leather jacquet is a basic ...
